MANHATTAN, Kan. - Coming off its hard-fought 24-19 victory at No. 5 Oklahoma on Saturday, Kansas State was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced Monday.

K-State, which picked up a road victory against its highest-ranked opponent in school history, earned the FWAA distinction for a third time. The first designation was in 2003 after the Wildcats collected a 38-9 win at No. 18 Nebraska, while the second was in 2007 after upending No. 7 Texas in Austin, 41-21.

The Wildcats turned three Oklahoma turnovers into 17 points Saturday night en route to their first win in Norman since 1997. Kansas State trailed the Sooners, 13-10, entering the fourth quarter, but quarterback Collin Klein tallied a five-yard touchdown run before running back John Hubert scored from nine yards out to take a 24-13 lead.

Oklahoma scored a touchdown with four minutes left in the game to cut the deficit to five, but linebacker Justin Tuggle batted down a pass on the two-point conversion, and K-State converted two first downs on its next possession to run out the clock and move to 4-0.

The FWAA National Team of the Week was created in 2002 and has been awarded each Monday during the regular season by various committees that have included members of the FWAA All-America Committee, the association's board of directors and its past presidents.

No. 7 Kansas State will enjoy a bye week before hosting in-state rival Kansas in the Dillon's Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, October 6, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Kickoff for the game against the Jayhawks - the first in Manhattan since 2009 - will be announced later Monday.
