The hard work on and off the court has paid off for junior forward Charlie Wallrapp.

The Omaha, Neb. native at Benedictine College was recently named the Heart of America Athletic Conference recipient of the Emil S. Liston Award.

“It is a tremendous honor to receive this award,” Wallrapp said. “It took an immense amount of hard work and dedication, but without the efforts of my teammates, coaches and professors, this would not have been possible.”

Wallrapp was the Ravens leading scorer a year ago. He averaged 14.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and shot 46.9 percent from the field. His performance gave him an All-HAAC second team selection and an NAIA All-America honor.

Off the court, Wallrapp was named to the 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete team. That honor is given to athletes of junior or higher standing who achieve both high marks in the classroom and help their team on the hardwood.

“This honor is truly the reflection of a dedicated student and a hard-working and talented player,” said Coach Ryan Moody. “Charlie’s accolades on the court are well documented, his leadership within out locker room is easily seen by those close to our program, but his effort in his studies and his leadership and citizenship on campus and in Atchison largely go unseen.”

The Emil S. Liston Award is named in honor of the NAIA’s first executive secretary and is presented annually since 1950 to one junior men’s and women’s basketball player who has shown high athletic and scholastic achievement.
