In two similiar games, Hiawatha mounted fourth quarter comebacks to earn a road sweep at Holton on Friday night.

GIRLS = Hiawatha 36, Holton 28

On a night when Hiawatha struggled to score the basketball and missed more than ten treys after making their first one of the night. it was three straight triples in the fourth quarter that gave the Redhawks the lead and ultimately road win. After trailing all night and by as many as seven late in the third period, Hiawatha finished the game  with a 21-7 run as Josie Delaney hit a triple to tie the score at 23 with 5:30 to go and then Clara Lindstrom knocked down back-to-back trifecta's for a 31-25 advantage before the Hawks hit free throws to ice it and complete the season sweep of Holton.

The Wildcats struggled to score themselves and had 20 turnovers on the night but led 10-6 after one quarter and 15-12 at halftime and 21-15 heading into the fourth stanza. But Holton trailed 36-25 before Macey Patch hit the only three-pointer for the Wildcats as time expired.  Patch scored 10 and Lindsey Wisdom led the way with 11 as Holton fell to 10-7 overall and 6-5 in the Big 7.

Lindstrom had 11 for Hiawatha while Darcy Lierz added 9 and Delaney chipped in 7 points. Hiawatha only had 13 tunovers and improved to 14-3 overall and 8-3 in Big 7 play.

BOYS = Hiawatha 53, Holton 52

The game came down to the fourth quarter and free throw shooting but there was more involved along the way to explain Holton blowing a 15-point led in the final nine minutes and how HIawatha exploded for 26 points in the final period to steal the road win and split the season series after losing to the Cats 68-52 earlier in the year.

The Redhawks played without their leading scorer and a starting post player as well while giving up a lot of transition baskets in the first half and trailing 25-20 at intermission. Yet, freshman Cameron Boswell hit a pair of treys and scored 8 of his 13 points in the final stanza and Hiawatha took advantage of a couple key turnovers before knocking down  of 10 free throws as part of a 28-12 finish to earn the win. Boswell and Tyler Davis each hit a pair of freebies and Mario Alcalde made five straight free throws in the final minute as Hiawatha was ahead 53-49 before a Holton trey by Jaylen Turner ended the contest.

While Hiawatha was making hay at the line and scoring on every possesion, Holton struggled going 1 of 7 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats hit three of their five treys in the third quarter when they led 40-25. Tyson Snyder led Holton with 15 points while Jaylen Turner and Jake Zeller each ascored 13. But Matt Lierz was held to just two points after going 8-10 from deep and scoring 26 earlier in the week iknocking off unbeaten and number one ranked Royal Valley. The Wildcats are now 10-7 overall and 6-5 in the Big 7.

Boswell led Hiawatha with 13 points while Ashton Rockey knocked down three treys and added 11 and Joel Bryan had 11 points as well. Brandt Barnhill also scored nine before fouling out late as the Redhawks improved to 9-8 with their third straight league win to move to 5-6 in the Big 7.
