Marysville Wins Nemaha Valley Track Invite Last Week (Full Results)

Teams from the Big Seven, Twin Valley, Delaware Valley and NCKL leagues with others meet up in Seneca last week as part of the Nemaha Valley Invitational to face off in a track and field showdown.

At the end of the day it was the Marysville Bulldogs taking home a pair first place finishes overall after winning both the girls and boys team titles in the 10 team meet host by Nemaha Valley.

In the girls competition it was Marysville tallying 110 points, 18 better than second place which was grabbed by the host Nemaha Valley Raiders after finishing with 92 points. Bluejays of Sabetha took home third place, followed by Washington County in fourth, Riverside finished fifth, B&B placed sixth, Rock Creek took home seventh, Flint Hills Christian and Royal Valley tied for eighth place.

The top of the boys competition was a tight race as Marysville registered 96.5 points, topping Washington County by only 2.5 points for first place and the Tigers took home second. Nemaha Valley capped off a solid day for themselves with a third place in the boys competition, followed by Sabetha in fourth and Rock Creek rounded out the top five. Cyclones of Riverside grabbed a sixth place finish, Jackson Heights followed in seventh, B&B tallied eighth, Flint Hills Christian finished nineth and Royal Valley took home tenth.

Bulldogs of Marysville took home their first place finish behind a sweep in the relay competitions and a three gold medal performance by Rachel Heiman. Marysville Relay teams registered the best marks in the 4x100 (52.11), 4x400 (4:22.24) and 4x800 meter (10:39.78) relays to earn those wins. While, Heiman sprinted to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 12.37 and 26.58, while also capturing a win in the 400 meter run (1:03.18).

Nemaha Valley Raiders of area schools competing was the only other school to finish with a person with multiple first place finishes, as Ashley Rottinghaus took home wins in the 1600 and 800 meter runs registering times of 5:57.61 and 2:31.05. Jill Swart joined here teammate, Rottinghaus with a gold medal after winning the pole vault at the Nemaha Valley Invite with a vault of 9-00.

Both B&B and Washington County took home a pair of first place finishes on the days competition. For the Falcons Laura Sudbeck tossed her way to a win in the shot put (40-01) and Haley Strathman leapt to win in the high jump (5-06). The Tigers were lead on the day by first place finishes in the discus (114-11) by Erin Alexander and the 100 meter hurdles (16.46) by Gabby Gilliam.

Sabetha Bluejay, Heidi Heiniger and Riverside Cylcone, Conner Schultz each won events in the days competition. Heiniger continued to succeed in the javelin throw (129-09) winning another javlein title behind a toss of. Schultz, too continued her success in track and field this season leaping to another win in the long jump (17-08) and triple jump (36-08).

In the boys competition it was Marysville again leading the way with the most first place finishes, on their way to first place overall team finish. Brady Moore lead the Bulldogs on the day winning three gold medals taking home the titles in the 100 (10.58) and 200 meter (21.83) dashes and the 400 meter run (51.96). Jacob Friedrichs and Zach Cook each took home a first, too winning the discus (148-03) and shot put (47-06.50) crowns, while Bulldogs relay team sprinted to a win in the 4x100 meter relay (46.11).

Sabetha, Riverside and Washington County each took home a pair of first place finishes during the Nemaha Valley Invite. The Bluejays grabbed the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay titles behind times of 3:43.64 and 9:03.90, respectively. Riverside Cyclones won a pair of field event titles grabbing wins in the long jump (20-07) and javelin throw (145-04) by Dakota Pummell and Cody Walker, respectively. Washington County Tigers took home wins in the 1600 (4:43.99) and 3200 meter (10:34.20) runs with Dylan Hodgson grabbing wins in both competitions.

Host school, Nemaha Valley took home one first place finish in the boys competition with Colin Lierz winning the 800 meter run after registering a time of 2:08.12.

Teams now turn their attention to their respective league track meets this week, before regionals and state competition comes up in the coming weeks.
