Another quick start propelled Holton to their third straight win and a 2-0 district record by defeating Royal Valley 34-9. Eli Hallauer returned the opening kick 90 yards for a touchdown to start the night and four other Wildcats had rushing touchdown as Holton ran for 328 yards building a 34-3 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Royal Valley answered the opening kickoff return by marching 60 yards in 14 plays and chewing more than six minutes off the clock, but settled for a 33-yard field goal by Tyson Parks to make it 7-3 late in the first quarter. The Panthers would have only one first down however on their next six drives and finished with 164 total yards of offense. 78 of those yards came on a fourth quarter drive that resulted in a one-yard quarterback touchdown run from Aidan McKinsey with 25 seconds left in the game. He finished with 29 yards rushing while Jaxson Stevens led the way with 45 yards on 15 carries. The Panthers drop to 1-4 on the season after their first district game and will host Hayden next week.
Holton got second quarter touchdown runs from Kyler Jackson from 20 yards out and Cael Frazier on a four-yard run to lead 21-3 and also drove the lenght of the field in the final minute of the second quarter but a couple dropped passes and a sack kept anymore points off the board. The Wildcats then took advantage of two short fields to get a pair of touchdowns in the third period as Royal Valley failed on fourth and short at their own 32 and 36 yard lines on back to back possessions because of tackles made in the backfield by Dalton Roush and then Bodie Dillon for the Wildcats. Abbott Hundley and Andrew Shupe capped the short drives with touchdown runs of 26 and 30 yards to put Holton up 34-3 before the only turnover of the game when Holton fumbled late in the third stanza.
Another balanced wishbone rushing attack was led by Jackson who had an all-around big night and totaled 104 yards on 13 carries while Hundley added 95 yards on just 10 totes. Shupe, Frazier and Caleb Chermock all had over 45 yards rushing as well. Holton improved to 3-2 overall and will host their final non-district game against Rossville (2-3) in week six before a big showdown with Topeka Hayden.
