Axtell claims 8-Man TVL football title, Centralia the 11-Man TVL title
The Twin Valley League is one of the best small school leagues in the state of Kansas. No matter the sport, it seems like there is always plenty of them in state tournaments.
In football, they are split into an 8-Man league and 11-Man league. With just 4 TVL schools playing in the 11-Man ranks, Doniphan West, Onaga, Valley Heights and Centralia.
The Centralia Panthers win last Friday over Onaga, 29-12, clinched an outright league title for the 5th straight year for the school. Head coach Roger Holthaus, in his 5th season, also clinched his 5th straight district title. In his tenure, the Panthers have never lost a league or district football game. The Panthers are 5-3 on the season and play host to Jackson Heights on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a first round playoff game.
In the 8-Man ranks, there is more TVL teams for football. Axtell, Hanover, Clifton-Clyde, Frankfort, Washington County, Blue Valley-Randolph and Linn. After Hanover took the crown last season, ending Axtell's run of 4 straight league titles, the Eagles reclaimed it this season, when they defeated Hanover in week 7, 28-8.
The Eagles are 8-0 on the season and the number one team in the 8-Man D2 rankings. They play host to Hartford on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a first round playoff game.
Congrats to Axtell and Centraila on winning the league title in football for the TVL this season.
