Holton Volleyball Secures Fourth Straight Trip to State

The Holton volleyball team secured its fourth consecutive trip to the state tournament Saturday afternoon, defeating West Franklin and Maranatha Christian Academy at home to capture the sub-state championship.

The Wildcats (35-9) dominated West Franklin in the semifinals, winning in straight sets, 25-8 and 25-9. Holton then awaited the outcome of the other semifinal, where Maranatha Christian Academy defeated Wellsville in straight sets to set up a championship rematch.

The title match brought together Holton and Maranatha for the second consecutive season. A year ago, the Wildcats edged the Eagles in a three-set thriller. This time, Holton left little doubt, pulling out a 25-23 victory in the opening set before closing out the championship with a 25-15 win in the second.

The victory extended Holton’s run of consecutive state tournament appearances to four and marked the third straight season the Wildcats have hosted the sub-state championship on their home floor.

The Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 29-31 in Hutchinson. Coverage of the Wildcats will be available on the Holton Channel and 103.9 KNZA.
