Sabetha Remains Unbeaten After Big District Win vs. Royal Valley
The Sabetha Bluejays remained undefeated Friday night, improving to 7-0 with a decisive 36-8 district victory over Royal Valley at home.
Following a Royal Valley fumble to open the game, Sabetha wasted no time capitalizing. On the Bluejays’ first offensive play, Lincoln Menold broke free for a 68-yard touchdown run to give Sabetha an early 8-0 lead.
Quarterback Micah Lang extended the advantage in the second quarter with a one-yard quarterback sneak, sending the Bluejays into halftime with a 15-0 lead. The score marked the first of Lang’s four rushing touchdowns on the night.
Sabetha put the game out of reach in the third quarter with back-to-back touchdown drives. The first covered 63 yards and ended with Lang scoring from two yards out. The Bluejays followed with a 52-yard drive, capped by a 25-yard touchdown run from Lang, to extend their lead.
Lang added his fourth rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter before Royal Valley got on the scoreboard in the closing minutes. Panthers quarterback Ryker Warton broke loose for a 31-yard touchdown run to account for Royal Valley’s only points of the game.
Lang rushed for 77 yards on the night and completed two passes for 52 yards. Menold finished with 16 carries for 160 yards while Manny Oliveira led the Panthers attack with 26 carries for 107 yards.
The victory keeps Sabetha unbeaten and puts the Bluejays in control of the district title race. Sabetha can clinch the district championship with a win over Horton in the regular-season finale.
Royal Valley will host Riverside, with the winner securing second place in the district and earning the opportunity to host a first-round playoff game.
