Centralia Gets It Done in District Matchup Versus Jackson Heights
Centralia came away with a hard-fought 30-14 victory over Jackson Heights in a gritty, back-and-forth district football matchup.
Centralia received the opening kickoff and drove deep into Cobra territory before turning the ball over on downs at the Jackson Heights 14-yard line. The Cobras capitalized immediately, scoring on the first play from scrimmage as Tatum Eisenbarth broke loose for an 86-yard touchdown run. Centralia responded with a 1-yard touchdown run by Quentin Alderfer to even the score at 8-8 heading into the second quarter.
Both teams continued trading scores in the first half. Eisenbarth found the end zone again on a 37-yard run, finishing the half with seven carries for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Alderfer answered with another 1-yard touchdown run, tying the game at 14-14 heading into halftime.
Centralia took its first lead of the game in the third quarter on a clutch fourth-and-goal play. Facing fourth-and-goal from the 13-yard line, Alderfer connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to give the Panthers a 22-14 advantage.
Jackson Heights struggled to find an answer in the second half, and the Cobras' offense was plagued by turnovers, throwing three consecutive interceptions. Centralia added one more touchdown to secure the 30-14 victory.
The Panthers finished the contest with more than 200 rushing yards, led by Alderfer, who unofficially recorded 31 carries for 220 yards and three total touchdowns. Eisenbarth led the way for Jackson Heights with 170 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries.
Jackson Heights will look to bounce back next week when it faces Valley Falls in a crucial district matchup. Both teams enter the contest with 0-3 district records, making the game an important opportunity to earn their first district win.
