Linn sweeps Onaga Tri

The number two team in Class 1A-D1 looked the part, as the Linn Bulldogs made quick work of the Onaga Buffaloes and Axtell Eagles in non-league battles.

The first match was between Linn and Onaga and it was a thrashing from the Bulldogs, they quickly and soundly defeated the Buffaloes, 25-9 and 25-7.

The second match of the night was between the third ranked team in 1A-D2, the Axtell Eagles and the Linn Bulldogs. The first set was back and forth at the beginning with Linn holding the slim, 7-5 advantage. However, that is when the Bulldogs turned it on, scoring 18 of the next 24 points, to take set number one, 25-11.

Set number two was similar to the first, with the score being tied at 3. But again, that’s when Linn went on a run. Sophomore Sophia Hiltgen was impressive at the service line, serving three aces, forcing an Axtell timeout. Linn scored 11 of the next 13, to take a 14-5 lead. This time though, Axtell would not go away quietly, battling back and scoring 13 of the next 17, to tie the score at 18 all, forcing a Linn timeout. Linn got a side out and scored two more to force an Axtell timeout. Axtell scored 5 of the next 7 to tie it at 23, forcing Linn to use a timeout. Senior Gretchen Bott called game, getting back-to-back kills, with Linn winning 25-23.

In the third and final match of the night, it was Axtell vs Onaga. It was competitive and back and forth in the early going, with the teams being tied 5-5 early. Axtell would get 6 aces in the set from junior Regan Haskenkamp. That helped propel the Eagles to a 25-14 set one victory.

Set number two was a great start for Axtell, as they jumped out a 5-0 advantage forcing an Onaga timeout. The Buffaloes battled for awhile, but couldn’t overcome the early hole, and lost the set 25-12.

On the season, Linn moves to 28-0 on the season, Axtell to 18-14, and Onaga to 7-19.
