Jackson Heights Squeaks out Homecoming Victory Over Wabaunsee

The Jackson Heights Cobras hosted the Wabaunsee Chargers in a non-league and non-district match-up at home for a homecoming game. The Cobras came out on top 18-14 in a thrilling performance on the gridiron.

Both teams went into the first half scoreless with only three drives each. Jackson Heights held two goal line stands in the first half to keep it a shut out going into the second half.

Jackson Heights scored first on a 60-yard rush from Brody Browning. Wabaunsee would go into respond but the cobras would strike back in the third with another 65-yard drive, this time capped off by a 45-yard receiving touchdown by Sir Peak, his first of the season.

The Cobras would add another score in the third to go up 18-6 with Luke Schierling finding his first receiving score on the year from 57 yards out. In the fourth quarter Wabaunsee would make it a 18-14 game in favor still of the Cobras and have a chance with under three minutes to take the lead after forcing Jackson Heights to turn over on downs.

Fortunately the defense redeemed themselves from last week and forced four straight incompletions to get the ball back and end the game in victory formation and fireworks.

Jackson Heights is now 3-2 overall and heads straight back into district play the final three games of the season, facing Onaga on the road next week, then both Centralia and Valley Falls at home.
