Schwinn Shines and Tigers Thump Holton

In a district week five battle, Jeff West was in danger of falling behind two scores before their offense took a single snap. However, The Tiger defense made a goal-line stop and proceeded to drive 96 yards in what would be their first of seven straight scoring drives. Brixton Schwinn tossed seven touchdown passes and threw for 357 yards as Jeff West won their second district game 48-14 at Holton to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Holton was a home for the first time since week one and started homecoming by driving 76 yards in 14 plays before Jerome Williams ran in a two-yard TD and the conversion to make it 8-0 with nearly half the first period gone by. The ensuing kick ricocheted off a Jeff West player and Holton recovered. The Wildcat ran 12 more plays and got inside the five-yard-line, but was stopped on fourth down and then couldn’t pick up a first down on their next four possessions as the game flipped.

Schwinn hit eight difference receivers on the night and welcomed back the return of his older brother Brody (6-82 receiving) and Brady Skahan (4-61 receiving) who had a pair of touchdowns. It was Parker Jensen that caught three touchdowns however in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 28-8 halftime edge, including one with :09 left that capped a five-play 56-yard-drive in less than 30 seconds. Jensen finished with 85 yards on 6 grabs while Carter Hutfles hauled in five catches for 38 yards and Parker Petesch and Jakob Devlin both had touchdown receptions. Schwinn finished 29-37 and was clutch with his first two TD strikes coming on plays of third down and eight and fourth down and 12.

Holton had nearly 120 yards and nine first downs before Jeff West touched the football, but couldn’t sustain the momentum with only one first down in the second and third quarters combined.  The Wildcats, now 1-4, finished with 259 yards on 65 carries led by Williams with 118 yards on 278 totes. Jarret Abel added 79 yards on 16 carries but didn’t play in the second half and Brody Nicol carried 15 times for 63 yards including a touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game. Holton is now 1-1 in district play and will be at Nemaha Central in week six for a likely second place district finish and home playoff game on the line.
