Axtell dominates Troy in battle of unbeatens
In a battle of two 4-0 teams, the Axtell Eagles dominated from start to finish, defeating the Troy Trojans at home 62-14.
Troy won the toss and wanted the football. They went 3 and out. Axtell scored on their opening drive, on a 10-yard TD pass from Wyatt Detweiler to Joe Lybarger. Axtell got another stop and score, with Lybarger running it in from 8 yards out.
Axtell got up 40-0 late in the second quarter, thanks to touchdown runs from Lybarger, Detweiler and Clayton Heinen. Troy punted on 4th and 9, but a running into the kicker penalty, made them go for it on 4th and 4, they converted and ended up driving down the field.
On the last play of the half, Kaston Jasper found Lane Hartman from 9 yards out to make it 40-6 at the half. Troy stopped Axtell to start the second half and went down and scored on an 8-yard touchdown run from Jasper to make it 40-14. The Eagles responded with touchdown runs from Heinen and Detweiler to make it 56-14.
Troy drove all the way down to the Axtell 6 yard line, but Detweiler picked off Jasper and returned it for a game ending pick six.
Wyatt Detweiler was the Player of the Game with 7 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown, he also threw a TD pass, and he had the game ending pick six.
In the loss, Kaston Jasper threw for 227 yards and a touchdown, rushing for a score as well. Axtell moves to 5-0 (2-0), they are at Linn next week. Troy falls to 4-1 (1-1) they are home for Hanover next week.
