Centralia sweeps VB Tri at Valley Heights

TVL volleyball action from Valley Heights didn’t disappoint, as it was competitive action all night, between the Valley Heights Mustangs, Centralia Panthers and Onaga Buffaloes. 

The Mustangs and Buffaloes played the first match of the night, and it was back and forth action to start the game, both teams trading the first 12 points, keeping our score at 6-6. But the Mustangs would build a little momentum, scoring 4 of the next 5, to go up 10-7, but Onaga kept battling, trading the next 8 points. At that point, Valley Heights couldn’t be stopped, they raced to a 25-16 set one victory. 

Valley Heights carried that momentum into the second set, dominating Onaga from start to finish. The Mustangs jumped out to a 9-3 advantage, parlayed that into a 16-9 lead and then closed out the game scoring 9 of the last 12, to win the set 25-12. 

The number 1 ranked team in Class 1A-Division 1, the Centralia Panthers looked the part, as they jumped out to a 14-4 set one advantage over the Onaga Buffaloes, thanks to a 11-1 run. They never looked back, as they won set one, 25-12. 

Set number two was much more competitive, as it was an 11-11 tie, but Centralia sophomore Carlee Steinlage was unstoppable all throughout the set, helping her team to a 25-17 set two victory. 

The first set between the two Top 10 teams in the respective classes was back and forth, with Centralia leading 13-10, but the Panthers ripped off 7 straight points with senior Josie Haverkamp at the service line. The Mustangs battled, but ran out of time, as Centralia took set one 25-17. 

The second set was dominated by the Panthers, they jumped out to a 12-6 lead, and then scored 9 points in a row to push their lead to 21-6. They would go on to win the set 25-11.

The Buffaloes were swept in both games they played, they dropped to 5-6 on the season and 1-5 in TVL play. The Mustangs go 1-1 on the night, they are 6-9 on the season and 2-4 in TVL play. Centralia improves to 12-0, they are 5-0 in TVL play.
