Sabetha beats Nemaha Central in OT thriller

It was no different than year's past, the Sabetha and Nemaha Central football game came down to the final plays. This time the Bluejays flipped the script, winning 21-14 in overtime, snapping their 9-game losing streak to the Thunder. 

The Bluejays forced a 3 and out to start the game, and went right down the field, scoring a touchdown from 1-yard out, with senior quarterback Micah Lang running it in, making it 7-0 Sabetha. 

The Thunder responded, putting together a long drive, capping it off with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Cole Ranieri to Tate Edelman, making it 7-7. 

Sabetha fumbled on their ensuing drive, and the Thunder scored again, with Ranieri hitting Mason Schultejans from 15 yards out to make it 14-7 Nemaha Central, that would be our halftime score as well. 

Sabetha was driving at the end of the third quarter, and finished off the drive on the first play of the 4th quarter, with Lang running in his second touchdown of the night, tying the game at 14. 

Sabetha fumbled around midfield with 3:17 to go in the 4th quarter, and the Thunder would drive to the redzone, but had to settle for a 30-yard field goal as time expired in regulation, it was wide left and overtime was upon us. 

Sabetha got the ball first and scored on a 1-yard Lang run, putting the Bluejays up 21-14. Nemaha Central had 4th and goal from the 5, but Lang shut the door, sacking Ranieri to end the game. 

Micah Lang was the Player of the Game, having 18 carries 64 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns, he was 2-2 for 34 passing yards, and the game sealing sack. 

In the loss, Cole Ranieri threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns. The Thunder (1-1, 1-1) play their home opener next Friday against Royal Valley. Sabetha (2-0, 2-0) travels to Hiawatha next week.
