Hewins' Record Setting Performance Powers Riverside to Victory at JCN

The Riverside football team opened their season Friday night at Jefferson County North with a come from behind 41-28 victory over the Chargers. 

The story of the game was Riverside freshman running back Charles Hewins who set on school record with 339 rushing yards to go along with four touchdowns on 26 carries. 

His two touchdown runs in the first half were from 34 and three yards out, and his two touchdowns in the second half were from 29 and 19 yards out. 

Jefferson County North jumped out to an early lead and led the Cyclones 22-13 at halftime, but were outscored 28-6 in the second half. 

The Cyclones also found success in the passing game in the second half as quarterback Kobe Koehler completed 6-of-12 passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Both went to Keagan Hughes who finished the night with three catches for 61 yards and those two scores. 

JCN got touchdowns from Knox Heston, Chris Noll, and Merrick Noll twice. Merrick led the Chargers on the ground with 21 carries for 135 yards. Brody VanDyke completed 9-of-13 passes for 83 yards. 

Week two matchups: JCN will travel to Horton while Riverside will have their home opener against Oskaloosa.
