Kirkwood's Impressive Tournament Inches Her Closer to 1,000 Career Points
Korie Kirkwood

Valley Falls just wrapped up their time in the Jefferson County North Girls Invitational in which they finished sixth place.

Senior Korie Kirkwood tore it up all week long and landed on the All-Tournament team. In their three games, she averaged 23.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while shooting 29-for-35 from the free-throw line (83%). This includes a breakout performance on Friday in which Korie scored 27 points and snagged 16 rebounds in their 55-48 win against Atchison. She also went 12-for-17 from the charity stripe.

This season, Korie is averaging 18.2 points (40% of the team’s total scoring per game) and 9.8 rebounds per game. She is also averaging 3.8 steals per game and shooting 76% from the free-throw line.

She is likely to surpass the 1,000-career point total soon as she is currently 62 points shy of the mark. Korie has already well-surpassed 500 rebounds with 618 total.

She has the Dragons in the heart of the Northeast Kansas League race with a 3-3 league record which ties them for fourth place. They are 4-6 overall on the season with a little less than a month left in the season.

Korie is a four-year starter and was a First Team All-NEKL selection last season after averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.

“Korie is a well-rounded kid and athlete,” head coach Jordan Hale said. “She is coachable, willing to go the extra mile to get things done, and is a great leader to the underclassman.”
