It has been an incredible ride for the Wetmore football team in 2022 in their first season at the 6-man level.

The Cardinals advanced to the Sectional round of the playoffs after beating Burrton on Friday 63-7 to win the regional title.

Senior Dierk Hanzlicek has been an important part of the Cardinals offense this season that’s averaged 53 points per game this season.

In the win last week over Burrton, Dierk ran for 295 yards on just 14 carries with six touchdowns. That comes out to an average of 21 yards per carry.

For the season, Dierk is averaging over 144 rushing yards per game as he’s eclipsed 1,300 yards after last week’s performance. He’s also thrown for 370 yards plus he’s tallied 242 receiving yards along with 37 total touchdowns.

The Cardinals will have their toughest opponent to date this season as they travel to top ranked Cunningham for their Sectional game this week.
