Kramer Keeps Title Defense Alive for Thunder
Zac Kramer

Even after a 1-2 start to this season with a pair of Big 7 losses by a combined nine points, nobody in their right mind was writing off the defending Class 2A State Champions. After all, Nemaha Central started last season with a 1-2 record before rattling off 10 straight wins to capture their first state football title. Right on cue, the Thunder are back in the quarterfinals having won six straight games including a thrilling 40-30 victory against Silver Lake last Friday.

Zac Kramer took over at quarterback this year and has certainly been a dual-threat catalyst for the Thunder offense. He was a monster that Silver Lake had no answer for last week as the junior had 187 yards rushing and five touchdowns and also threw for 163 yards.

“Zac’s our man,” Nemaha coach Warren Seitz said after the Silver Lake win. “We want the ball in his hands. He’s a heady player and made some big plays for us.”

For the season, Kramer has completed 83 or 123 passes for 1,389 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 952 yards on 120 carries (7.9/carry) and 17 trips to the endzone. He also has 32 tackles and two interceptions for the Thunder defense.

Kramer and Nemaha Central look to continue through the 2A playoff bracket and defend their state title as they play at Osage City (9-1) this Friday night at 7:00 PM.
