Sabetha Bluejays Baseball Team Caps Year With State Title
Sabetha Bluejay Baseball Team

Usually it takes a few years for programs to establish themselves and build up their program but for the Sabetha Bluejays baseball program it didn’t take long. In just the second year of the program the Sabetha baseball team claimed the Class 3A State title.

Built with a strong group of athletes and coaches the Bluejays jumped in baseball at the high school level last year head of the curve compared to other schools starting programs and it helped establish a the program. After winning Regionals Sabetha entered a stacked 3A State tournament that featured eight teams with 19+ wins and the Bluejays were seeded seventh but the flew high in Manhattan.

In the first round Sabetha downed Southeast claiming a 12-4 victory to assure themselves at Top four finish at State. Standing in the way of Sabetha in the Semifinals was last year’s State runner Marion/Lost Springs-Centre and the Bluejays snagged the 9-4 win. In the Championship Sabetha doubled up Hays-TMP to take a 10-5 win and win the 3A State title.

Bluejays capped the season with a 23-3 record winning their final nine games of the season, claiming 15 wins by eight-plus runs (11 by 10+ runs) and their three losses were all by three runs or less. The offense was balanced as the team averaged 11.8 runs per game and had eight players recorded 20+ hits on the season. While the defense and pitching was strong as the Bluejays gave up just 2.6 runs per game to their opponents.

The magical year finished with the State title for the Sabetha baseball team and another banner for Sabetha high school.
