(1-4) Washington County at (0-5) Rock Hills

Washington County took a heartbreaking loss last Friday to the Clifton-Clyde Eagles, just 38-22, which extended the Tigers' losing streak to four straight losses since the opening season victory. It was the most points the Tiger crew had displayed after the last three straight weeks, having accumulated six points in their last three games. 

The Rock Hills Grizzlies have had a tough five-game stretch for the 2025 season, having taken their fifth straight loss last Friday to Lincoln. The Grizzlies have only managed to score 20 points this season, whilst giving up over 200 points. It’s their worst start to a season ever, beating out an 0-4 start to the 2021 season. 

Last season, the Grizzlies beat Washington Co. 54-6, now with an all-time series lead over the Tigers 2-1.

(5-0) Sylvan-Lucas at (4-1) Clifton-Clyde

It’s been a hot year for these Mustangs. Sylvan-Lucas has dominated five straight games this season, adding onto the carnage with the 58-6 win over Lakeside-Downs last Friday. The defense came away with an interception and only permitted 71 total rushing yards. The Mustangs put up 22 points in the first and the final 36 in the second, ending the contest at halftime. 

Clifton-Clyde has now won three straight games after their loss to #3 in 8M-ll Hanover, beating Washington County in a tight shootout last week, 38-22. The Eagles have outscored their competition 92-22 through their three-game winning streak. The Eagles are 2-0 in their district along with Sylvan-Lucas and Lincoln. 

Last season was the first time meeting ever for these two teams and the Mustangs came in with just as hot a start with a 5-0 record. However, Clifton-Clyde came away with the victory 32-6.

(5-0) Hanover at (0-5) Wakefield

Hanover continued their long winning streak against the Blue Valley Randolph Rams last Friday with a 48-0 victory, now having won 17 straight matchups when facing the Rams. Hanover hasn’t permitted any points since week two and is outscoring their competition 246-14. The Wildcats remain ranked #3 in 8M-ll in the state. 

Wakefield has had a struggling year so far, and that continued last Friday with the 46-0 loss to the Axtell Eagles. The Bombers surrendered all 46 points in the opening quarter and allowed Axtell to have 216 yards of offense across the two quarters of play. Wakefield was held to 33 yards of offense and just 3 first downs. 

Hanover is 15-1 when facing Wakefield all-time, with the last time Wakefield had won being back in 1998. Last year, Hanover won 68-0.

(2-3) Frankfort at (1-4) Blue Valley-Randolph

Frankfort bounced back after their blowout loss against Hanover last Friday, 44-36 over Thunder Ridge. Wes Anderson is now officially over 100 career passing touchdowns in his varsity career, a truly remarkable achievement for a high school quarterback. He threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns in the game versus Thunder Ridge while also adding 44 rushing yards and two more scores on his legs. 

The Blue Valley-Randolph Rams were shut out for the first time this season last week with the 48-0 loss to the #3-ranked team in 8M-ll Hanover. The Rams just wrapped up their stretch of facing back-to-back top-three-ranked teams in both Axtell and Hanover and will look to regroup and recover. 

Frankfort won 54-6 last season against Blue Valley. Frankfort also leads the all-time series 23-4 against the Rams.

(3-2) Linn at (2-3) Pike Valley

The Linn Bulldogs have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season, earning their second district win over St. Johns-Tipton 54-22. Linn now leads the district at 2-0. The Bulldogs also tied the all-time series against St. Johns-Tipton 4-4 with the victory. 

Pike Valley’s two-game winning streak ended last Friday, 56-8 against the Osborne Bulldogs. Pike Valley’s quarterback, Owen Russell, went 6 of 22 passing, 91 yards, 1 touchdown, and two interceptions. Despite the rough loss, the team still put up 202 yards of offense, with the rushing game averaging 3.4 yards a carry. 

Linn won over Pike Valley last year, 58-30. Two years ago, the Linn Bulldogs won with their most points ever scored with a 92-48 victory. Pike Valley still, however, leads the all-time series 8-6.

(4-1) Rossville at (1-4) Cair Paravel

Rossville enters this week ranked #3 in Class 1A and they dominated Mission Valley last week 55-6. The Dawgs rushed for 333 yards and averaged 15 yards per carry against the Vikings. Quarterback Canaan Mitchell completed 7-of-8 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns while adding 61 rushing yards and two more scores.

After winning the season opener 60-14 against West Frankin, Cair Paravel has lost four straight games including last week at Wabaunsee 53-25. During this four game losing streak, Cair Paravel has been outscored by its opponents 173-59. Two of those losses have come against undefeated Osage City and one-loss Council Grove. 

Rossville won the matchup last season against Cair Paravel 71-24. In that game, Rossville rushed for 326 yards and averaged 13 yards per carry.

(2-3) Onaga at (5-0) Jackson Heights (Cobra Channel)

The Onaga Buffaloes fell to the only other undefeated Northeast Kansas League team in the Jefferson County North Chargers last Friday, 26-8. Onaga went down 20-0 at halftime, but had a strong third quarter, making it 20-8 with a Gavin Kolterman score. Onaga would have a chance with the ball under the twelve-point deficit but would turn it over on downs to allow JCN to jump up 26-8 in the final quarter. 

Jackson Heights continues to be one of the most dominant teams in all of Class 1A after destroying Pleasant Ridge 70-6. The Cobras remain #1-ranked in team 1A. The Jackson Heights Cobras had 483 yards of offense. Drake Mellies went 12 of 13, 285 yards, and three touchdowns in the air. Mellies also rushed for an additional 59 yards with two more scores. Freshman Tatum Eisenbarth was utilized to the max last Friday with arguably his best statistical game this season. Eisenbarth had a total of 182 yards of offense and three total touchdowns. 

Jackson Heights won last year’s match-up 64-8. Jackson Heights has a 3-5 record against Onaga dating back to 2008.

(1-4) Valley Falls at (5-0) Jefferson County North (KAIR 93.7)

The Dragons of Valley Falls lost their fourth straight game last week against McLouth at home 26-12. The 12 points scored were the most scored in a game this season for Valley Falls. There lone win was in the season opener against Horton 6-0. Valley Falls have not been able to get much going in the running game this season as they’re averaging just 31 yards per game.

Jefferson County North remained perfect after defeating Onaga on the road last week 26-8. Will Elias had three touchdowns for the Chargers paired with the defense posting another strong outing. JCN has outscored their opponents 202-20 with the 20 points allowed coming in their last two games.

Dating back to 2004, JCN is 9-6 against Valley Falls with the Chargers winning the last four with last year’s final score being 48-14. Valley Falls is in search of their first win against JCN since 2014.

(1-4) Pleasant Ridge at (1-4) McLouth

Pleasant Ridge had the pleasure of taking on 1A #1 Jackson Heights at home last week with the Cobras getting the big win 70-6. The Rams have lost three straight games since beating Doniphan West in week two 21-14. The three straight losses coming against Troy, JCN, and Jackson Heights with those three teams combined for just one loss entering week six.

McLouth picked up their first win of the season last week at Valley Falls 26-12. McLouth has now beat Valley Falls in 10 of the last 14 matchups dating back to 2004. Since 2004, P-Ridge is 13-6 against McLouth but the Bulldogs won last season’s matchup 44-12. The Rams’ last win over McLouth was 50-0 back in 2021.

(0-6) Horton at (5-1) Centralia – Centralia wins by forfeit

(4-1) Troy at (4-1) Riverside

Troy scored in all four quarters last week and won the rivalry game against Doniphan West 36-0. Colt Jensen and Hunter Engemann each had two touchdowns while Tucker Jarrett added a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Kaston Jasper threw for 172 yards and three scores as the Trojans have won four straight games since the overtime loss in week one at Republic County.

Since dropping the season opener at Jackson Heights, Riverside has rattled off four straight wins including last week against Horton on the road 51-0. During this four-game winning streak, the Cyclones have outscored their opponents 159-15 with wins against ACCHS, McLouth, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, and Horton including back-to-back shutouts.

Riverside and Troy have played six times since 2011 with the Cyclones holding the 4-2 edge. Riverside won the matchup last season 14-12 while the Trojans last beat Riverside 26-14 in 2023.

(1-4) Maur Hill-Mount Academy at (0-5) Doniphan West

Maur Hill has lost back-to-back games scoring zero points after their huge 54-6 win over Maranatha. Last week the Ravens fell to Centralia 42-0. Maur Hill has been outscored this season 204-60 and has been held scoreless three times. Maur Hill has been outscored 94-0 in the two all-time meetings against Centralia. 

Doniphan West lost to Troy last week 36-0 and have now been shut out in back-to-back weeks. Doniphan West has allowed thirty points or more in the last three games. The Mustangs allowed Troy to score in every quarter including two in the first quarter on their first two drives of the game. Doniphan West was held to 72 yards rushing and 43 yards passing. 

Last season Maur Hill beat Doniphan West 19-14. Doniphan West is 5-2 against Maur Hill since 2008.

(3-2) Valley Heights at (0-5) Herington

Valley Heights laid down the hammer last Friday in a 62-12 win over Bennington. It was the most points scored in a game for Valley Heights since 2023, where they won 64-26 over Wabaunsee. It was a massive bounce back game for the Mustangs after taking the heartbreaking 26-16 loss against Sacred Heart two weeks ago.

Herington lost 60-14 against the Republic County Buffaloes to drop to 0-5 on the season. Herington was held to just 160 yards of offense. The Railroaders allowed 403 yards of offense split up into 103 passing yards and 300 yards rushing. They allowed the Buffaloes to rush for 8.6 yards and carry and score five scores on the ground

Last season was the first meeting between Valley Heights and Herington. Valley Heights secured the victory.

(3-2) Silver Lake at (1-4) Riley County (Silver Lake Channel)

Silver Lake is above .500 for the first time this season as they won their third straight game last week at home against Baldwin 47-7. The Eagles dominated the second half, and they limited the Baldwin rushing attack to just 103 yards on 3.3 yards per carry. They also held Baldwin to just 60 yards passing in the game. Through five games this season, the Eagles offense is averaging 218 passing and 127 rushing yards per game.

The Falcons of Riley County lost another close game last week, this time against St. Marys 22-13. They lost to Holton by nine in week two and lost by two against Council Grove in week four. There lone win was against Chapman in week three 21-20. Let’s not forget they lost by one point against Jefferson West in week one.

Dating back to 2004, Silver Lake is 23-4 against Riley County which included a win last season of 28-6. The Eagles have won the last two meeting with Riley County’s last win against Silver Lake back in 2022 by a final score of 23-21.

(3-2) St. Marys at (5-0) Osage City

The Bears of St. Marys got a close win last week against Riley County at home 22-13. The Bears rushed for 160 yards and averaged five yards per carry in the win. Korleone Holz led the way with 145 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown. Quarterback Lane Smith completed 4-of-11 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown to Holz who added two receptions for 66 yards.

Osage City is ranked #3 in 2A behind only Southeast of Saline and Nemaha Central as they remained undefeated last week with a dominant 43-0 win against previously undefeated Council Grove. Kasen Parsons completed 14-of-21 passes for 263 yards with three touchdowns. Osage City also piled up 219 rushing yards. The Indians defense held the Braves to 34 rushing yards and forced multiple turnovers.

Osage City won the matchup last season against the Bears 24-16 as the Indians outscored St. Marys 17-0 in the second half. Kasen Parson rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns in that game.

(1-4) Royal Valley at (3-2) ACCHS

Royal Valley dropped to 1-4 on the season after losing a close game against Perry-Lecompton last week 27-24. The Panthers rallied in week one to beat Hiawatha but since then have lost four straight games against Jefferson West, Holton, Sabetha, and Perry-Lecompton. It’s a big district game tonight for the Panthers with Nemaha Central looming in week seven.

Atchison County had their brief two-game winning streak snapped last week with a big time loss to Sabetha on the road 46-7. The Bluejays have now beat the Tigers in 12 of the 15 matchups dating back to 2005. Going into that game, the Tigers were averaging 128 rushing yards and 124 passing yards per game.

Royal Valley has won five straight against Atchison County including last season 54-8. Despite the loss, ACCHS was able to rush for 176 yards in that game. The Tigers are looking for their first win against the Panthers since 2005.

(5-0) Sabetha at (5-0) Nemaha Central (92.1 KMZA & Sabetha Channel)

Sabetha is 5-0 since 2023 and is one of the quietest 5-0 teams in the state. Last Friday, the Bluejays beat ACCHS 46-7. This is a Sabetha team that has found the ground game favorable in 2025, having already rushed for 1,283 yards off 227 carries, averaging 5.65 yards per carry and 256 yards rushing a game. Will Voos leads the flock of Bluejays with 646 yards on 98 carries with 8 total touchdowns. 

Nemaha Central destroyed Oskaloosa 55-6 last Friday to add to their stellar 2025 campaign so far. Carter Hajek went 4 of 5 passing for 96 yards and three touchdowns in the win over the Bears. Hajek added another 60 yards rushing on the ground off six carries for two more touchdowns. Nemaha Central rushed for a total of 148 yards and combined for 273 yards of offense, while averaging 9.3 yards a carry and 17.9 yards a reception. They are still the #2 team in Class 2A behind Southeast of Saline.

Since 2005, Nemaha Central is 16-8 against Sabetha, including winning the last six straight meetings. Sabetha has been eliminated by Nemaha Central in the playoffs for three straight seasons. Last year, Nemaha Central won 24-0 in the regular season against the Bluejays, while in the playoffs, Nemaha Central won again, 21-0.

(3-2) Holton at (5-0) Hayden (Holton Channel)

Holton had their three-game win streak snapped and homecoming spoiled in a 27-17 loss against Jeff West last week. The Wildcats had 18 rushing plays that did not produce any positive yards and gave up 255 passing yards and four scores. Holton ran for 311 as a team led by Korban Wilson with 111 yards and Alec Frazier with 104. Both seniors have over 470 rush yards for the season and the Wildcats are led by Andrew Shupe with 549 yards on the ground in a balanced wishbone attack.

Now 1-1 in district play, Holton travels to the Capitol City to face an undefeated Hayden Catholic team who has beaten their opponents by an average score of 43-4 this season, allowing only 20 total points all year with a speedy defense. Defensive leaders with more than 35 stops this season on the Hayden defense include Xander Blasing, Jude Krentz, and Jackson McGivern. The defending state runner-up Hayden offense has been balanced with Connor Hanika completing 40-73 passes for 612 yards while Kade Mitchell leads the ground game with 399 yards and 7 scores this fall.

Hayden won 31-7 last year against Holton and has won three straight in the series as well as 7 of the last 9 games in this storied rivalry.

(1-4) Perry-Lecompton at (4-1) Jefferson West (103.9 KNZA)

The Kaws of Perry-Lecompton got their first win this season last week against Royal Valley 27-24. Garrett Metcalfe completed 6-of-11 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown while Amos Brackenhoff led the Kaws rushing attack with 21 carries for 76 yards. Perry’s schedule has been brutal this season with their first four games coming against St. Marys, Sabetha, Silver Lake, and Holton.

Jefferson West had one of the most impressive wins of week five defeating Holton on the road last week 27-17. It was only the third win for Jeff West against Holton over the last 30 meetings and the first in six years. The Tigers defense had nine tackles for loss and added nine other plays where they held Holton to no gain. Brixton Schwinn completed 24-of-48 passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns.

The Kaws dominated the Tigers last season, winning 43-14. The Kaws scored 14 points in the first quarter and led the game 22-7 at halftime. Perry rushed for nearly 200 yards in that game.

Non-District

(5-0) Axtell at (2-3) St. Paul

Axtell, not shockingly, remains the #1 team in 8M-ll after a 46-0 wipeout over Wakefield last Friday. The Axtell Eagles have won 57 straight games and continue to dominate, having now scored all their points in the first quarter for back-to-back weeks. Wyatt Detweiler had six carries for 99 yards rushing with two touchdowns, while in the air, Detweiler went 7 of 8 for 116 yards and three scores. 

The St. Paul Indians lost to the now 5-0 #5-ranked 8M-ll Central Christian Cougars 46-0 last week. St. Paul allowed over 289 rushing yards in the game to the Cougars, giving up nearly twelve yards a carry. 

Axtell destroyed St. Paul last year, 68-0. Believe it or not, the Eagles trail this series 3-2 with a chance to tie it up this week.

(1-4) Hiawatha at (2-3) Oskaloosa (Hiawatha Channel)

The Redhawks of Hiawatha dropped their second straight district game last week to Hayden at home 51-0. Hayden is now 6-0 against Hiawatha dating back to 2021 and have been outscored the Redhawks in that stretch 319-13. Hiawatha have lost three straight games against Sabetha, Jefferson West, and Hayden who have a combined one loss entering week six.

The Bears are 0-2 in district play after losing to Nemaha Central last week at home 55-6. After defeating Pleasant Ridge and Valley Falls in the first two weeks, the Bears have lost three straight against JCN, ACCHS, and Nemaha Central and have been outscored 136-20 in those three games.

Last season was the first all-time meeting between the Bears and Redhawks with Hiawatha getting the win 42-6.
