(3-1) Clifton-Clyde at (1-3) Washington County (TVL)

After the 56-6 loss to Hanover, the Clifton-Clyde Eagles have found back-to-back wins under their belt to improve to their 3-1 record. The Eagles beat Lakeside-Downs last week 46-0. The Clifton-Clyde defense held Lakeside to just 25 passing yards and 4 rushing yards, allowing an average of just 0.2 yards per carry. 

The Washington County Tigers have lost three straight games after their week one victory over Blue Valley-Randolph 52-28, being outscored in their last three games 164-6. Last Friday, the Tigers lost to undefeated Lincoln at home 56-6, giving them first place in the district. The Tigers have also now lost four straight games against Lincoln, trailing the all-time series 4-3. 

Clifton-Clyde leads the series against Washington County Tigers 11-8. Last season, the Eagles won 48-0.

(1-3) Blue Valley-Randolph at (4-0) Hanover (TVL)

Blue Valley Randolph became the 56th consecutive win for the Axtell Eagles last Friday in a 54-8 loss for the Rams. The Rams threw five total interceptions, three of which went to Joe Lybarger of the Eagles. The Rams also allowed 54 points in the first quarter, while conceding 200 yards of offense. 

The Hanover Wildcats rolled over the Frankfort Wildcats 50-0 to improve to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Twin Valley League. Kadrick Cohorst for Hanover had 172 yards passing and 89 yards rushing, while scoring four touchdowns in the victory. Hanover outperformed Frankfort, 386 yards of offense to 173. 

Hanover is 20-1 against Blue Valley-Randolph in their twenty-one matchups played since 2000; the sole win from the Rams came back in 2005 when Blue Valley won 32-20. Last season, Hanover won 46-0.

(0-4) Wakefield at (4-0) Axtell

The Axtell Eagles pick up their 56th consecutive win in their 54-8 victory over the Blue Valley Rams. The Eagles scored all 54 points in the first quarter and had five total interceptions, with three of them coming from Joe Lybarger. Wyatt Detweiler continued to lead the Axtell offense, passing for 110 yards, going 7-7 with three touchdowns. 

The Wakefield Bombers have lost four straight games in a row, taking their fourth loss of the season 52-0 to Rural Vista last Friday. The Bombers have gone down in scoring every game so far this season, as they are currently being outscored 192-50 on the year. The Bombers are currently averaging 191.3 yards per game.

Axtell leads the series versus Wakefield 3-1, having won the last three straight meetings, which includes last year’s dominant 50-0 victory.

(2-2) Beloit St. Johns-Tipton at (2-2) Linn

After losing two straight games, the St. John’s/Tipton Bluejays bounced back last Friday with a 58-24 win over the Osborne Bulldogs. Brooke Dunstan completed 10 of 20 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns in the victory, while rushing for an additional 58 yards. The Bluejays had a total of 355 yards of offense in the big win over Osborne. 

The Linn Bulldogs have alternated their wins and losses this season each week, having won last Friday’s match against Thunder Ridge in a close scoring affair, 36-30. Linn came away with an interception and a fumble in the victory, while giving up 246 yards of offense to the Longhorns. 

The Bluejays lead the all-time series against Linn 4-3. Linn snapped a four-game losing streak to the Bluejays last season in a 39-16 victory.

(3-1) Mission Valley at (3-1) Rossville

Mission Valley is 3-1 after beating Cair Paravel on the road last Friday night 21-7. The Vikings have won back-to-back games since their lone loss of the season in week two against Council Grove (41-0). Quarterback Jake Mills has completed 24-of-45 passes for 373 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. They average nearly 195 rushing yards per game with Mills leading the way with four touchdowns and 168 yards.

Rossville bounced back from their week three loss against 2A #2 Nemaha Central to defeat Maranatha last week on the road 69-0. Quarterback Canaan Mitchell completed four of his five pass attempts for 155 yards and four touchdowns. The Dawgs rushed for 250 yards and averaged nearly 12 yards per carry. Landen Lewis with two catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns, and Cameron Miller with two catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Since 2004, Rossville is 14-1 against Mission Valley winning last season’s matchup 43-0. Rossville has won five straight in the series with the Vikings lone win in that stretch coming back in 2017 by a final score of 33-27.

(4-0) Jefferson County North at (2-2) Onaga (92.1 KMZA)

Jefferson County North is off to a strong 4-0 campaign to start the 2025 season: it’s their first 4-0 start since 2023. Last Friday, the Chargers gave up their first points of the season against Pleasant Ridge in a 50-12 victory. Will Elias continues to have electric games this season for JCN as he accounted for 178 passing yards, 3 passing scores, 145 rushing yards, and 4 rushing touchdowns against the Rams. Combining for 223 yards and seven touchdowns in the win. 

Onaga started district play-off right by getting back into the winning column with a 32-6 win over the Valley Falls Dragons. The Buffaloes had five rushing touchdowns in the dominant victory, with Gavin Kolterman leading the way with two scores. Graham Valburg, Josh Daniels, and Ryder Kolterman all rushed for a single touchdown in the game as well, while Kolterman also added a two-point conversion with his legs. Onaga now leads the all-time series versus the Dragons 14-4.  

Jefferson County North won 28-22 last season over the Onaga Buffaloes. The victory tied the all-time head-to-head series 3-3. Before last season, the last time both teams met was back in 1995, which ended in a 40-7 win for Onaga.

(4-0) Jackson Heights at (1-3) Pleasant Ridge (NEKL) (Cobra Channel)

Jackson Heights rolled the McLouth Bulldogs in a 55-8 victory last week. The Cobras had a balanced offense in the win, passing and rushing for 174 yards each, combining for 348 total yards of offense. The Cobra defense forced two turnovers and forced three turnovers on downs. Drake Mellies had 174 yards passing with three touchdowns, while also rushing for 57 yards and another touchdown. Austin Zeller led the receivers with 120 yards off five receptions, scoring two touchdowns, and having a long 51-yard touchdown to make it 14-0 early in the first. 

The Pleasant Ridge Rams lost to the Jefferson County North Chargers last week, 50-12, arguably the second-best team in the Northeast Kansas League right now. It was the first points of the season allowed by the Chargers' defense in the loss for the Rams. Pleasant Ridge is currently being outscored by their opponents 154-56. 

Jackson Heights has won five straight against the Rams, including last year’s dominant 62-0 win. The Rams won six straight against Jackson Heights from 2004 to 2009, with 2009 being the last time that Pleasant Ridge defeated the Cobras.

(0-4) McLouth at (1-3) Valley Falls (NEKL)

McLouth had a tough go at it last week as they lost to 1A #1 Jackson Heights at home 55-0. The Bulldogs defense gave up 174 passing yards to Drake Mellies and 174 rushing yards overall with the Cobras averaging over eight yards per carry. In four games this season, McLouth has been outscored 176-28 and have been shut out twice.

Valley Falls opened district play last Friday with a 32-6 loss at home against Onaga. It’s the Dragons’ second straight loss to the Buffaloes and they are now 4-14 all-time against Onaga. Since the week one win against Horton, the Dragons have been outscored 76-12 in their last three games against Oskaloosa, ACCHS, and Onaga.

McLouth is 9-4 against Valley Falls dating back to 2004. McLouth won the matchup last season 44-8 and have won six straight against Valley Falls. The Dragons last win against McLouth was 36-20 back in 2010.

(0-4) Doniphan West at (3-1) Troy (103.9 KNZA)

Doniphan West lost 30-0 last week to one of the top teams in 1A, the Centralia Panthers. Doniphan West trails in the all-time series against Centralia 17-1, with the sole Mustang win dating back to 2006. This season, the Mustangs are being outscored 98-34, compared to halfway through the season last year, Doniphan West was outscored 159-42.

The Troy Trojans allowed the first points of the season for Horton last Friday, but still managed to get away with the win, 38-14. Troy led 6-0 after the first quarter and would put the game away with 20 points in the second quarter. Troy quarterback Kaston Jasper completed 23-of-38 passes for 385 yards and six touchdowns on the Chargers' defense. The only points scored by Horton were off their defense with two pick-sixes in the fourth quarter, while their offense was held to 48 total yards. 

Troy runs the series against Doniphan West 10-5, having won last year’s contest 54-13.

(3-1) Centralia at (1-3) Maur Hill-Mount Academy (KAIR 93.7)

The Centralia Panthers remain undefeated against Kansas teams with last week’s 30-0 victory over the Doniphan West Mustangs. The Centralia Panthers have won the Twin Valley League title every year since 2017. Centralia now leads the all-time series against Doniphan West 17-1. Centralia has outscored their opponents 115-71 halfway through the season.

A week after Maur Hill earned its first win of the season, the Ravens lost last Friday 47-0 to the Riverside Cyclones. Maur Hill allowed 34 points in the first quarter and 13 points in the second quarter. Maur Hill gave up six rushing touchdowns, including a pick-six to Micah Robidou. Maur Hill has been outscored 210-12 on the season. 

Last season was the first all-time meeting between the Maur Hill-Mount Academy Ravens and the Centralia Panthers. Centralia was victorious 52-0 over Maur Hill.

(3-1) Riverside at (0-4) Horton (NEKL)

Riverside opened district play last week with a dominant 47-0 win against Maur Hill-Mount Academy for their third straight win. The Cyclones scored 34 points in the first quarter and then added 13 points in the second quarter. The Cyclones had six rushing touchdowns and added a pick-six from Micah Robidou. The game ended at the 10:38 mark in the third quarter.

Horton scored their first points of the season last week against Troy, but the outcome was a Trojans 38-14 win at home. Horton trailed 6-0 after the first quarter but Troy put the game away with 20 points in the second quarter. The Chargers offense is still looking for their first points of the season by the offense as the two touchdowns against Troy were pick-6’s late in the game.

Riverside has won seven of the eight meetings against Horton dating back to 2011 including last season 27-0. The Chargers last win against the Cyclones was 14-8 back in 2014.

(0-4) Bennington at (2-2) Valley Heights

Bennington lost to the Republic County Buffaloes 50-0 for the Bulldogs' fourth consecutive 42+ point loss this season. The Bulldogs allowed 87 yards passing, three passing touchdowns, 221 yards rushing, and three more scores on the ground attack. Bennington has been outscored 204-12 this season. 

The Valley Heights Mustangs, after winning back-to-back dominant games, took a loss last Friday, 26-16, to Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart was allowed to rush for 125 yards while averaging five yards a carry, while the Mustangs' defense also allowed 271 yards in the air with three passing touchdowns. 

Valley Heights is 7-2 against Bennington, with last year’s match-up ending 43-6 in favor of the Mustangs.

(1-3) Riley County at (2-2) St. Marys (Big East)

Riley County had an opportunity last week to pull an upset against undefeated Council Grove but in the end, the Braves were able to come out victorious against the Falcons 28-26. The Falcons lost the game despite holding Council Grove to just 79 rushing yards on 2.6 yards per carry. The Falcons’ three losses to Jeff West, Holton, and Council Grove have been by a combined 12 points.

The Bears of St. Marys lost to Silver Lake last Friday 21-6. For the Bears, it was their 23rd straight loss against the Eagles. Bears quarterback Lane Smith against the Eagles, completed 10-of-24 passes for 181 yards and two interceptions. Silver Lake’s run defense was stout holding St. Marys to just 68 yards on under three yards per carry.

Riley County is 17-3 against St. Marys dating back to 2004 with the Falcons winning the last 14 meetings. Last season the final was 27-26 and the last two meetings have been decided by a combined four points. St. Marys is looking for their first win against Riley County since 2009.

(3-1) ACCHS at (4-0) Sabetha (Sabetha Channel)

Atchison County took care of business in their district opener last week beating Oskaloosa at home 43-14. The Tigers rushed for 284 yards and averaged nearly 11 yards per carry. Max Bottorff led that category for the Tigers with eight carries for 110 yards and a touchdown. Raul Melara rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown, Kain Koontz rushed for 52 yards and a score, and Rance Vessar rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown.

The Bluejays defense pitched their second straight shutout as they defeated Royal Valley on the road last Friday night 16-0. That was after they beat Hiawatha at home 15-0 in week three. All four wins for Sabetha have come against Big East league opponents with their defense giving up just 5.8 points per game so far this season.

Since 2005, Sabetha is 11-3 against ACCHS with the Bluejays winning last season 38-0. Sabetha have won seven straight against the Tigers with the last win for the Tigers in the series coming back in 2011 by a final score of 28-26.

(4-0) Nemaha Central at (2-2) Oskaloosa

2A #2 Nemaha Central remained unbeaten in 2025 as they beat 4A Chanute in Seneca last Friday night 28-14. Quarterback Carter Hajek continued his tremendous senior campaign with 155 rushing yards and three touchdowns while adding 62 passing yards. Sullivan Haverkamp added the other touchdown on the ground as he finished with four carries for 33 yards.

After winning their first two games of the season, the Oskaloosa Bears have lost back-to-back games including last week at Atchison County 43-14. The Bears outscored P-Ridge and Valley Falls 56-23 in the first two weeks but have been outscored 81-14 in the last two weeks against JCN and ACCHS.

Nemaha Central beat Oskaloosa last season 48-6 with Hajek rushing for 141 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries. He finished that game 4-for-5 passing for 54 yards and another score.

(3-1) Jefferson West at (3-1) Holton (Big East) (Holton Channel)

The Tigers of Jefferson West opened district play last Friday with a 12-7 win against Hiawatha on homecoming night. Down 7-6 early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers scored the go-ahead touchdown on a busted play on fourth and goal which proved to be the difference on the scoreboard. Freshman quarterback Brixton Schwinn completed 16-of-22 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown. Crayton Holman had both touchdowns for the Tigers and finished with 10 receptions for 184 yards.

A pair of 3-1 teams that are 1-0 in district play meet for homecoming in Holton. The Wildcats are coming off three straight wins including a 40-10 victory at Perry-Lecompton last week. Holton ran for 477 yards on 60 carries and was led by Korban Wilson with 150 yards and Andrew Shupe with 124. Alec and Cael Frazier combined for another 136 on the ground and both had touchdowns as Holton overcame a pair of first half fumbles and early 7-0 deficit to run past the Kaws. 

Holton is 18-2 against Jefferson West dating back to 2004 including four straight wins for the Wildcats. The final score last season was 48-9 with the Tigers’ last win against Holton coming back in 2019 with the final score in that game being 7-0.

(4-0) Hayden at (1-3) Hiawatha (Hiawatha Channel)

Hayden is the #2 ranked team in Class 3A according to K-Preps and they remained unbeaten last week beating previously 4A ranked Wamego 42-6. It was the Cats’ ninth win in the last 10 meetings against the Red Raiders. Hayden quarterback Connor Hanika passed for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

Hiawatha lost on the road at Jefferson West last Friday in the district opener 12-7. The Redhawks led 7-6 at halftime on a short touchdown run from Ethyn Grant but gave up the go-ahead touchdown on a fourth and goal busted play early in the fourth quarter. Grant led the Redhawks rushing attack in the game with 20 carries for 69 yards.

Since 2021, Hayden is 5-0 against Hiawatha and won the matchup last season 56-6. In those five meetings, Hayden has outscored Hiawatha 268-13.

Non-District Games

(1-3) Frankfort at (1-3) Thunder Ridge

While the loss to Hanover last season for Frankfort was a little more closely suited, 28-24, this year’s loss was far from a win for the Wildcats. Frankfort was destroyed 50-0, with the game ending shortly into the fourth quarter. Frankfort put together a handful of solid drives in the contest but would fall short on fourth downs. Wes Anderson had his lowest producing offensive game this season with 129 yards of offense and no scores. Frankfort was held to 173 yards of offense and was shut out for the first time since 2023 against Axtell. 

The Thunder Ridge Longhorns are coming off a close 36-30 loss to the Linn Bulldogs. Despite having 246 yards of offense, the Longhorns had two turnovers with an interception and a fumble. Despite the loss, sophomore quarterback Tate Foreman led the Longhorns with 78 yards passing with a passing touchdown, while also rushing for 142 yards on 22 carries for three more scores. 

Frankfort is 1-2 against Thunder Ridge all-time. Last season, the Wildcats took care of business 54-6. Wes Anderson will look for his 100th career passing touchdown, currently at 99 total varsity passing touchdowns.

(0-4) Perry-Lecompton at (1-3) Royal Valley (Big East)

Perry-Lecompton enters the second half of the regular season still searching for their first win of 2025. The Kaws were put away in the second half last week against Holton losing the game 40-10. The Kaws trailed 16-10 at halftime but didn’t get any closer the rest of the game. The Kaws defense allowed Holton to rush for 477 yards on 60 carries. The Kaws have been outscored 121-23 this season.

Since winning the opener at Hiawatha, Royal Valley has lost three straight games including last week against Sabetha at home 16-0. Going into that game against the Bluejays, the Panthers were averaging 286 rushing yards per game and was averaging nearly six yards per carry.

Royal Valley won the matchup at Perry last season 12-8. The Kaws led the game 8-6 at halftime but the Panthers would get a 19-yard touchdown run in the third quarter which proved to be the difference.

(3-1) Baldwin at (2-2) Silver Lake (Silver Lake Channel)

The Bulldogs of Baldwin have won three of their first four games this season beating Wellsville on the road last week in impressive fashion 35-14. The only loss for Baldwin this season was against Ottawa in week two 41-6. In their three wins against Iola, Burlington, and Wellsville, Baldwin outscored those teams 116-14. Baldwin has been one of the more impressive stories so far in 2025 as they went 1-8 last season.

Silver Lake won their second straight game last week beating St. Marys for the 23rd straight time 21-6. After losing to Rossville in overtime and Nemaha Central in the first two weeks, the Eagles have bounced back with wins against Perry-Lecompton and St. Marys. The Eagles defense held the Bears rushing attack to just 68 yards on just 2.8 yards per carry.

Silver Lake put the beats on Baldwin last season winning the game 50-0 which put Baldwin at 0-5. Silver Lake’s Dayne Johnson had a 75-yard pick-six early in that game while Dysen Schooler scored three touchdowns.

(4-0) KC Washington at (3-1) Atchison (Meadowlark Conference)

The Wildcats of KC Washington have been on a roll so far this season as they stayed unbeaten with a 49-26 win last week at KC Central (MO). Washington has outscored their opponents this season 234-88 and they have scored at least 60 points in three of their four games.

Atchison got a free pass in week four as they took a forfeit win against KC Schlagle after Schlagle was suspended for a fight that broke in their week three game against Highland Park. The Phoenix were blasted in week one by Ottawa but bounced back with big wins against Harmon 55-0 and Sumner Academy 55-28 in week’s two and three respectively.

Since 2004, Atchison is 12-6 against KC Washington as they have won four straight in the series including last year 55-6. KC Washington’s last win against the Phoenix was 40-14 back in 2019.
