Axtell boys basketball coach Jayson Tynon has been named the Class 1A-II Coach of the Year by Sports in Kansas. 

Tynon led the Eagles to a 25-1 overall record and 1A-II State Championship as they knocked out the defending champs in Cunningham in the title game in Colby. 

It was the second boys basketball title in school history with the other coming back in 2013. Tynon has tallied 139 wins in his 10 seasons with the program. 

The Eagles went undefeated against Kansas teams this season as their lone loss was against Auburn (NE) in a preseason holiday tournament in December. 

They went undefeated in league play to secure the regular season league title while they also captured the midseason TVL tournament in January.
