The Clifton-Clyde Lady Eagles came into yesterday ranked #4 in class 1A D1 while the Valley Heights Mustangs maybe not in the top ten rankings as of yesterday played like a top-ranked team in their dominating win over the Eagles.

Girls - Valley Heights over Clifton-Clyde 63-57

The first quarter ended 17-8 in favor of Valley Heights with nearly all of the Mustangs being able to get onto the board scoring. The most interesting thing about the first quarter is that Ava Smith was not even in the quarter for the Mustangs yet and Valley Heights had still been managing some of their best ball with three-pointers getting sunk by Lindsey Gray, Tessa Miller, and Mia Vermettan all in the first.

Valley Heights would hit three more three-pointers in the second quarter with Ava Smith hitting one, Anne Toerber splashing one, and Linsay Gray hitting one again. Valley Heights would seal this game at a 39-22 halftime with dominant performances all across the board. However, despite all of the all-around team success, there was still no answer for Sevy Wurtz as she finished with thirteen points on the half.

Valley Heights would go on to take a close 63-57 victory despite being up by twenty-one points at one point in the fourth quarter. Sevy Wurtz put the Ealges on her back with twenty-nine points scored in the second half. Despite her monstrous forty-two-point game, with six rebounds and four threes it just wasn’t enough to catch up to the beginning heat that the Mustangs brought and sustained (STATS NOT APPROXIMATE).

For Valley Heights, Mia Vermetten and Josie Parker would both finish with eleven points while Anne Toerber would lead the scoring with twelve points and five boards. Valley Heights would finish with seven threes on the game, nearly thirty rebounds, eleven made free-throw shots, and only twelve turnovers. The Mustangs would have seven players on the board with five points or more while having four score nine or more.

Summary

Valley Heights improves to 7-3 on the year and will next face Hanover at 7:30 PM on Thursday. This game will be broadcast to 92.1 KMZA, so be sure to tune in!
