Doniphan West Gets Pair of Big Innings to Get Past Horton for Road Win

Doniphan West put up eight runs in the fourth inning to help defeat Horton 16-4 in the first game of their doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.

The first three innings of the game were low scoring with Doniphan West getting on the board first with center fielder Clara Feighner getting a double then scoring on an error.

Errors would hurt the Chargers as they had nine total, including six in the fourth inning. The Mustangs had five hits in the frame, including two from third baseman Madie Helmstetter.

Doniphan West would add two more runs in the fifth inning, including an RBI double from shortstop Brooklyn Denton.

In the sixth inning, they added an extra five runs with designated hitter Delainee Wagonner getting a two-RBI single.

Catcher Brennah Edie led the team with three hits out of her four at-bats. She had two runs and two RBI and was a home run away from a cycle.

Denton finished her afternoon going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Helmstetter went 2-for-4 with two runs and left fielder Ella Haynes went 2-for-4 with two RBI as well.

Starting pitcher Brooklyn Rawles allowed just one hit with five walks, four earned runs, and three strikeouts in three-and-a-third innings. Jaycie Cluck pitched two-and-two-third innings in relief and surrendered one hit, no runs, and four walks with two strikeouts.

Up next for Doniphan West is a home doubleheader against Centralia/Frankfort on Monday. As for Horton, they get unbeaten McLouth next on the road on Monday.
