Deters' 24 Points Helps Centralia to State Semifinals

Oen Deters outscored Norwich herself 14-2 in the first 5:12 of the game with a couple of three-point makes, a pair of layups and four free throws. Head coach Dusty Thompson rested her for the final two minutes and the Panthers’ defense held to give them a 16-6 lead at the quarter’s end.

Deters picked up her second foul with just 7:03 left in the second quarter, but Thompson decided to leave her in. This decision paid off as she was able to get steals on defense without fouling, and she made another three-pointer to get her halftime total to 17 points. Tava Gibbs also contributed four points with a jumper from beyond the arc. Centralia boasted a 24-12 lead at halftime, and Norwich coming into the game averaged giving up 22.8 points per game.

Deters kept it up in the third quarter despite missing the middle portion of the quarter after picking up her third foul. She was able to score seven more points, and Gibbs scored four more to give Centralia a 37-23 going into the fourth quarter.

The Panthers wouldn’t look back as Gibbs scored six fourth-quarter points which helped Centralia hold on for the sizable win.

Deters finished with 24 points, making her the Player of the Game brought to you by Farmers State Bank. She shot 38.9% from the floor (7-for-18), 37.5% from three (3-for-8) and 63.6% from the free throw line (7-for-11). Gibbs also had 14 points shooting 4-for-8, and Hayden Kramer had seven points as well.

Centralia is on to the semifinals where they will play top-seed unbeaten Little River which will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. on 92.1 FM KMZA.
