The Jefferson County North boys basketball team earned a spot in the Class 2A State Tournament in Dodge City after defeating Horton 58-52 in the Sub-State Championship game on Saturday at JCN.

The Chargers went on an impressive run to win three straight in the Sub-State Tournament over Cair Paravel (51-38), NEKL Champs Maur Hill-Mount Academy (51-37), and league runner-up Horton in the finals.

JCN has won four straight games and eight of their last nine entering the State Tournament.

It’s been an incredible ride this school year for some of the players on the team as they also played football and made a run to the Class 1A State Title game back in November.

The Chargers will head to Dodge City and open the tournament against (20-3) Moundridge on Thursday, March 7th at 8:00 PM. JCN is the #6-seed in the field with a record of 16-7 while Moundridge is the #3-seed.

Head coach Cory Noll: “It’s an awesome feeling and I’m extremely proud of this team. They’ve worked so hard this year and I’m glad to see it’s paying off.”

Noll acknowledges his key seniors with Carson McAfee, Ethan Noll, Calvin Manville, Connor Keirns, Grady Noll, and RB Tweed.

“These guys are playing their best basketball at the right time and that is giving us a lot of confidence going into the State Tournament. We’ve had an unbelievable community support and I’ve enjoyed seeing how our fans have embraced this team.”

“I know our players feed off the energy and I’m excited to see that continue this week in Dodge City.”

KAIR 93.7 FM will be carrying all Jefferson County North games from Dodge City.
