Glatczak, Mayberry, and Detweiler Earn Coach of the Year Honors

Sports in Kansas have announced the Coach of the Year honors for all classifications for the 2023 season voted on by the media throughout the state.

Nemaha Central's Michael Glatczak was named the 2A Coach of the Year after a second straight 13-0 perfect season and State Championship. The Thunder defeated Hoisington in the Championship and have won three titles since 2019. 

Nemaha Central defensive coordinator Mark Mayberry was named the Small Classes (3A and below) Assistant of the Year. The Thunder defense posted eight straight shutouts from week two to week nine and gave up 67 total points in 13 games. 

Axtell's Eric Detweiler earns the award for 8M-II for a third straight year after leading the Eagles to their third straight State Championship. Axtell has a state best 39-game winning streak entering next season and lose only three seniors.
