2020 NEKL Summer Baseball – Standings

McDonald’s Player of the Game Award – Winners

The Northeast Kansas League Summer Baseball season ended for nearly all area teams Wednesday evening with Sabetha sweeping Corning by scores of 8-0 and 2-0.

In game one Sabetha started fast scoring four runs in the first inning on four hits with the big blow being a Darrin Funk two-RBI single while Tristan Wittwer and Matt Wittaker added RBIs.

That 4-0 score held until the fourth when the Raptors added three more runs with Braden Argabright delivering a two-run single before he came around to score on a wild pitch.

Argabright then ended the game in the fifth on a bases loaded RBI single that forced the run-rule to come into play.

With his performance Argabright earned our McDonald’s Player of the Game honors on 103.9 KNZA as he finished 3-for-3 with a double, single, three RBI and a walk.

Kaden Dillon was also stellar on the mound for Sabetha in the win as he tossed all five innings allowing just one hit while striking out four.

In game two Sabetha also blanked Corning behind another solid pitching performance as Darrin Funk delivered a 4-hitter.

Funk fanned four in his fifth win of the year and needed just 55 pitches to do so.

Both of Sabetha's runs were scored without the benefit or an RBI as Braden Argabright scored a first inning run on a throwing error that allowed him to score from first.

Matt Wittaker scored the final run in the second on a Kaden Dillon single that eluded the left fielder to allow him to score.

Sabetha wraps up the season on a high note finishing at 16-14 overall and 12-9 in league play while Corning is 13-7 and scheduled to wrap up their season on Friday night against Topeka.
