McLouth KS,

A rematch 10 months in the making on the hardwood saw Hiawatha and Maur Hill Mount Academy lace them up once again. Last season, the two met in the class 3A sub state semi-finals where the Ravens escaped to a 49-45 victory over the Redhawks en route to a perfect regular season and securing the #1 seed in the state tournament. This time the match up was in the semi-finals of the McLouth Invitational mid season tournament, and the Redhawks avenged the loss by cruising to a 60-34 win.

Hiawatha came out firing on all cylinders led by Senior Sage Meyer draining three triples in the first quarter and Senior Tyler Brockhoff dominating the paint with 7 points pacing the 'Hawks to a 27-11 start heading into the second quarter. The Ravens would get back into the game led by Junior Jack Caudle dropping 6 points all in the second quarter to get the Ravens as close as a deficit of 10, however Brockhoff and fellow seniors Andrew Lierz and Michael Moreno would keep the Ravens at a safe distance of 38-24 at halftime. A third quarter was much of the same for Hiawatha's tenacious defense and strong offensive presence and the Redhawks put the game out of reach for good with a dominant 14-3 third frame to lead 52-27 heading to the fourth. A running clock would ensue in the fourth frame with Hiawatha's largest lead peaking at 60-30 before a few late buckets would end the game with Hiawatha advance to the tournament's championship game on Saturday with the 60-34 victory.

Hiawatha's full court pressure and stifling zone defense in the half court forced 15 Raven turnovers and never let Maur Hill get comfortable in their half court offense. The Raven's posted a season low in points in the game for their first loss of the season.

Tyler Brockhoff with a massive game for Hiawatha was the Citizen's State Bank & Trust Company of Hiawatha Player To Bank On with 22 points on the night.
