What started as a picture perfect day for baseball ended in a delay and a suspended game and still question marks on who would be playing in the regional championship game against the defending state champion Sabetha Bluejays on Thursday.

After Nemaha Central survived against Holton and Maur Hill-Mount Academy run-ruled Riverside the Thunder and Ravens faced off but due to lightning and rain the contest was suspended until Thursday.

Nemaha Central got to the semifinals after a stressful 3-2 over Holton scoring two runs in the third and getting out of two bases loaded jams.

Landen Baker and Luke Reitz combined for a three-hit, one-run victory on the mound with Tyler Gerety, Reitz and Zac Kramer each collecting RBI’s.

Holton had plenty of chances with the bases loaded twice but couldn’t get the big hit while also ending the game with runners at the corners.

Despite the loss the Cats received a strong outing from Blake Mulroy, who went 5.2 innings allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out four.

After Maur Hill-Mount Academy easily got by Riverside 10-0, the Ravens struggled early on in the semifinal against Nemaha Central as the Thunder plated three runs in the first on RBI’ from Luke Reitz and Dalton Huerter.

The Ravens rallied with four runs in the third on just one hit taking advantage of walks and errors from the Thunder.

Abe Siebenmorgen came on in the first inning in relief of freshman Drew Caudle and three four scoreless innings allowing just one hit and unfortunately for the Ravens due to the pitch count rule won’t be allowed to return on Thursday.

The Thunder used three pitchers on Tuesday, with Austin Gerety on the mound at the time of the delay.

The Ravens lead 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning with Nemaha threatening with runners at first and second with the game scheduled to resume at 4:00 pm at Sabetha before the regional title game.
