ACCHS Girls and Horton Boys Prevail in Renewed Rivalry

It was the first matchup since 2013 between Horton and ACCHS on Tuesday night as the Chargers played their final game befores the Christmas break.

GIRLS = ACCHS 38, Horton 33

The margin was never more than five points in this game although the Chargers led through the majority of the first three quarters, including a three-point advantage at the end of the first two quarters.  ACCHS tied the score at 27 going into the fourth frame and then took the lead for good and hit free throws to secure the road victory. 

The Tigers struggled mightily from beyond the arc, but kept the game close and made 9 of 12 foul shots in the fourth quarter. Jaycee Ernzen was 6-6 at the charity stripe and led ACCHS with 15 points while Katie Beien added 10 and the Tigers improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the NEKL.  They will play at Valley Falls on Friday, December 21st.   

Horton hit three treys early and had a 14-11 lead after one quarter but only made three field goals the entire second half.  Maryanna Randall paced the Chargers with 13 points while Kailea Smith added 10 before Horton fell to 1-6 on the season.  

BOYS = Horton 53, ACCHS 41

In a battle of winless teams, Isaiah Cortez scored nine points as Horton jumped to a 16-6 lead at the end of one quarter and never looked back.  The Chargers were up 11 points at halftime and by as many as 18 in the second half with Cortez scoring a game high 18 points.  Gunnar Madere added 12 points and Quinn Gamino chipped in 10. 

ACCHS cut the gap to 33-25 entering the fourth quarter but could never get any closer, partly because of 23 turnovers in the contest.  Trystin Myers scored 8 of his 16 points in the fourth period while Logan Kramer added eight points and ACCHS made just 10 of 30 free throws on the night.
