Marysville & Holton Wrestlers Dominate Clay Center Invite Taking First & Second

Eleven total schools in action at the Clay Center Invitational on Saturday and it was two area schools leading the performances as Marysville and Holton finished one and two dominating the competition. 

Marysville behind 11 Top four finishes earned first place as a team with 165.5 points winning the Clay Center Invitational team title by 53 points. Eight of the 11 Top four finishes were first or second place for the Bulldogs on the day. While Marysville took first out of 11 teams it was Holton finishing second with 112.5 points with nine Top four finishes leading the way for the Wildcats. Perry Lecompton was also in action on the day and finished tenth as a team. 

Leading the Bulldogs top performances were Storm Slupianek and Atreyau Hornbeak who both earned first place at their weight classes of 160lbs and 170lbs. Slupianek went 5-0 winning by pinfall four times in 1:19, 1:20 and 54 and 37 seconds, while also winning by 6-0 decision. Hornbeak went 3-0 on the day with three pinfall wins in 17 seconds, 3:41 and 3:36. Six Marysville grapplers claimed second place. Both Ethan Crownover (126lbs) and Jonny Crome (132lbs) each went 4-1, while it was a 3-1 day for both Jakob Snellings (120lbs) and Seth Mooradian (285lbs) and Isaac Novotny (106lbs) and Garron Champoux (182lbs) each finished the day 2-1 for second place. 

Third place finishes were earned by Gabe Capp (145lbs) and Ben Dwerkotte (195lbs) after going 3-1 each, while Derek Roever (152lbs) placed fifth with a 3-2 performance for Marysville. 

Holton was led by an individual first place finisher as Kyler Tannahill posted a 3-0 record winning by pinfall all three times winning in 49 and 47 seconds and 1:44. A 4-1 day by Cael Jackson (152lbs) and 3-1 performance by Kolby Roush (126lbs) earned both second place for Holton, while both Lawson Henry (138lbs) and Ace Eisenbarth (160lbs) each went 4-1 to take third place. Third place was also earned by Konnor Tannahill (182lbs) who went 2-1. Jake Barnes (106lbs) and Austin Rollett (220lbs) each went 2-2 to place fourth, while a 2-3 day earned Conner Gilliland (132lbs) fourth place. 

Perry Lecompton was also in action at Clay Center and was led by Braden Woodson at 106lbs who placed third after a 3-1 day on the mats. Both Wyatt Pringle (120lbs) and Hayden Robb (182lbs) each went 2-2 to take fourth, while a 2-2 day by Joel Guess (145lbs) earned him fifth place. Thad Metcalfe (126lbs) went 3-2 to take fifth for the Kaws.
