Back at State for the first time since 2009 and the lady Mustangs of Valley Heights brought home some hardware from the Class 2A State tournament taking third place just as the program did in 2009.

The Mustangs got rolling at State with in action in pool play and while needing three sets the it was two wins in the first two pool play matches. First up a matchup with Kiowa County and the Mustangs took set one 25-17, but fell in set two 9-25 only to take the match with a 25-21 third set. The second matchup was against Pittsburg-Colgan and just like first Valley Heights took set one 25-19, lost set two 22-25 and then took the third set 25-23 to win the match. In the final pool play match the Mustangs faced off with the team that eventually won the State title in Heritage Christian who took the final pool play match over Valley Heights 13-25, 17-25. With a 2-1 record the Mustangs finished second in the pool to advance to the Semifinals.

In the Semifinals Goessel loomed in front of the Mustangs and while the Valley Heights kept it close the Mustangs fell in straight sets 23-25, 22-25.

The loss meant Valley Heights would vie for third place and took on Smith Center in the consolation match. Mustangs galloped to the straight set win 25-17, 25-20 taking third place.

Mustangs capped the year 3-2 at the State tournament taking third place and finished the season with a 31-12 record.
