Back at the State tournament for the first time since 2011 the Holton Wildcats capped their year in competing in the Class 4A-Division II State tournament and went 1-2 in pool play action.
Entering State as the #6 seed the Holton Wildcats took on #3 seed Burlington in their first pool play match in Salina and after falling 25-16 in set one made a comeback in set two to make it interesting as the set went to extra points but the Wildcats fell 29-27 losing in straight sets.
Next up was the eventual State runner-up in Nickerson and just like the first match Holton struggled in the first set against Nickerson falling 25-10 and but came back to make set two tight but fell 25-22 losing in straight sets.
In the final pool play matchup and final game of the season for Holton the Wildcats took on Frontenac and capped the season with a grind it out three set win. After Frontenac took set one 25-18 the Wildcats came back again with a tight set two but this time won the second set taking it 26-24 to force a third set. In the third set Holton won another tight battle taking it 25-23 to claim the win.
The 1-2 performance at State finished out the season for Holton as the Wildcats wrapped up the year 24-19 and making their first trip to State since 2011.
