KBCA High School Basketball Rankings Feb. 1st - 13 Area Teams Ranked

Mid-season tournaments are in the books and the calendar as turned to February meaning the final stretch of the high school basketball season is here as teams look for strong finishes to the regular season to gear up for postseason action. The latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings feature 13 area teams in the rankings with plenty of movement in the polls. 

This week two area teams are ranked number one in their classifications and both come from Class 1A-Division I as the Hanover Wildcat boys remain ranked number one as they have all season and the Centralia girls have taken over the number one spot. The Hanover boys are 10-4 on the season after a 1-1 week last week falling to Centralia on the road and responding with a win at Axtell later in the week. After the Wildcats the number two and three spots in the boy’s 1A-DI poll belong to Doniphan West and Centralia, respectively. Donpihan West jumped up to number two last week and remains there this week with a 9-3 record after an overtime win against Washington County last week, while Centralia beat Hanover last week and is 9-3 on the season and up one spot to third this week. 

The lady Panthers of Centralia are number one in 1A-DI for the first time this season as Hoxie had previously held that position all year. The Panthers are 11-1 on the season and beat Hanover at home handily last week. 

In Class 1A-Division II the Axtell lady Eagles continue to remain in the rankings holding on to the number 10 spot yet again this week after beating Hanover last week to improve to 12-3 on the season. 

The Valley Falls lady Dragons continue to be one of the top teams in Class 2A as the Dragons won the JCN Invitational last week beating Osawatomie, Perry Lecompton and Rossville to win the tourney title and move to 12-0 on the season and remain ranked second in the 2A polls. Washington County lady Tigers also remain in the 2A rankings and are up one spot to ninth this week after a win over Donpihan West puts them at 10-3 on the season. 

In the boys rankings in Class 2A the Troy Trojans after jumping into the rankings last week remain in the polls this week and move up one spot to eighth after improving to 13-1 on the season last week with a win over Clifton-Clyde. While at the bottom of the 2A poll at tenth there is a new area team into the rankings as the Jefferson County North Chargers are into the rankings for the first time this year. The Chargers are 9-3 on the season after most recently winning the Valley Falls Tournament. 

Class 3A continues to house four Big Seven League teams between the girls and boys polls. The Sabetha girls and boys both remain in the rankings this week coming in at third for both teams down one spot each from last week. The lady Bluejays are 12-1 on the season after win beating Holton in League play and falling to Paola in the Burlington Invitational Championship, while the boys won the Burlington Invitational with a win over Rock Creek, but lost for the first time this season last Friday falling to Holton. 

The Royal Valley boys remain in the 3A rankings this week and remain ranked fifth with a 12-1 record beating Jeff West this past week. While the Nemaha Central Thunder girls finished second in the Hiawatha Invitational going 2-1 in action falling to Hiawatha in the Championship game after beating Benton JV and Marysville and are now 10-2 on the season. The Thunder remain in the 3A rankings this week but tumble four spots to ninth in the polls. 

The month of February is underway and the teams look to position themselves for postseason and gain momentum in the final stretch of the regular season.
