Day One of JCN Girls Invitational Tournament

JCN vs. ACCHS

Last year, the ACCHS Lady Tigers knocked off the Lady Chargers 54-49 in the semifinal round of the JCN Invite.

This year in the first round the two teams met again on the same floor, and Tuesday night it was JCN who came out on top 43-37.

The Lady Chargers jumped out on top early holding the Lady Tigers to just four points and five turnovers in the first quarter to lead by eight heading into the second.

In the second the ACCHS defense took over holding JCN to just two points, while Lady Tiger senior Mallory Eckert scored six to make it a 14-12 game at the half.

The second half was all Lady Chargers for the most part, with ACCHS making a late run to pull within three on eight points from Eckert, but JCN made enough plays down the stretch to advance.

JCN: Jentry Seichepine – 13, Julie Schrick – 9, Annabelle Vaught – 6, Gabbi George – 6, Carley Elias – 6, Ravyn Jobbins – 3.

Valley Falls vs. Osawatomie

Some nights when playing against a good team, you can tell early on if it’s your night or not.

It didn’t take long on Tuesday night for Osawatomie to find out the hard way, as the No. 2 team in Class 2A Valley Falls used an 18-0 first quarter to take down the Trojans 59-12.

The Lady Dragon defense was the key early, as they held Oswatomie scoreless until three minutes left in the first half to take a 31-4 lead into the break.

Valley Falls put up 28 more points in the second half cruising to their tenth win of the season.

Valley Falls: Allison Kearney – 10, Sydney Gish – 8, Reagan Kirkwood – 8, Lauren Harrington – 8, Jenna Kramer – 7, Rachel Frakes – 6, Ali Brown – 6, Callie Watson – 6.

Osawatomie: Josephine Johnson – 4, Lindsay Shippy – 4, Sydney Wallace – 2, Ashley Hay – 2.

Oskaloosa vs. Perry Lecompton

Despite being tied at halftime, Perry Lecompton used a 19-6 fourth quarter to take down Oskaloosa 47-31.

Perry worked their way out to an 11-8 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Bears battled back to tie things up at 16 heading into halftime.

The two teams battled back-and-forth in the third with the Lady Kaws leading 28-25 after three, setting up their big fourth quarter.

Perry:  Sam Mallonee – 16, Abbie Folks – 14, Lexia Jamison – 10, Shelbie Easum – 5, Graci Folks – 2.

Oskaloosa: Maddy Miller – 11, Jaden Courter – 5, Raegan Hamm – 4, Brylie Bassett – 4, Brittni Pryor – 2, Shelby Wright – 2, Lexi Adams – 2, Megan Miller – 1.

Rossville vs. Cornerstone

Rossville jumped out early and put double digits on the scoreboard each quarter en route to a 47-32 win over Cornerstone.

The Lady Dawgs held Cornerstone scoreless in the first quarter and led 23-11 at halftime. The Lady Saints played much better in the second half, but the early deficit was too much in the end.

Rossville: Heidi Nitsch – 9, Amanda Hill – 8, Katie Conley – 7, Jalyn Porter – 6, Lauren Steckel – 5, Sara Shinn – 4, Caila Hill – 4, Rachel Day – 4.

Cornerstone: Anna Holloway – 12, Allison Holloway – 9, Olivia Hamilton – 8, Michaela Bryant – 3.

 

Friday’s matchups: *JCN vs. Rossville at 6:00; ACCHS vs. Cornerstone at 6:00; *Valley Falls vs. Perry Lecompton at 7:30; Osawatomie vs. Oskaloosa at 7:30.
