Nemaha Central Girls & Boys Take Second at Silver Lake Invitational

Nemaha Central started the track and field season off with a solid performance as both the girls and boys teams claimed second place at the Silver Lake Invitational.

The Thunder girls finished behind host Silver Lake taking second place, while the rest of the team finishes had Olpe third, Marysville fourth, Rock Creek fifth, Rossville sixth, Riley County seventh and Santa Fe Trail eighth. Nine teams competed in the boys competition and Nemaha Central finished behind Olpe for second place, while Silver Lake took third, Marysville fourth, Rock Creek fifth, Rossvile sixth, Riley County seventh, Santa Fe Trail eighth and Cornerstone ninth.

Leading the way on the day for Nemaha Central was the performance of Shaylyn Baumgartner who won both the shot put and javelin with tosses of 35'06.50 and 131'04. Kaley Dalinghaus also tossed her way to a gold medal winning the discus with a toss of 106'03, while bring home silver medals in the shot put and javelin. Rachael Baumgartner brought home the other first place Thunder performance in the girl’s competition by winning the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.78 and also took second in the 300 meter hurdles and third in the pole vault. The Thunder 4x100 meter relay team took home a silver medal, while Laura and Jenna Macke each grabbed a third place finish in the high jump and triple jump, respectively.

On the boys side of competition three gold medals were earned by Nemaha Central with Jacob Koelzer, Caleb Bradley and Zach Bradley all notched a first place finish. Koelzer sprinted his way to a win in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.14, while Zach Bradley won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.49 and took second in the 300 meter hurdles. Caleb Bradley vaulted his way to gold in the pole vault with a vault of 12'06. The Thunder's 4x100 meter relay team picked up a second place finish, while Colin Lierz earned third in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Mikeal Sperfslage and Abe Elder both also registered third place finishes in the 3200 meter run and long jump, respectively.

Marysville also had plenty of top performers including a first place finish by Grace Stohs in the pole vault with a vault of 9'00. The lady Bulldogs took home second in the 4x800 meter relay, while finishing third in the 4x100 meter relay. Avery Williams, Claire Cudney and Chloe Cudney all picked up third place finishes in the 300 meter hurdles, 100 meter hurdles and long jump, respectively. On the boy’s side of competition, Joe Smith led the Bulldogs with three second place finishes in the 400 meter dash and 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Adam Lindhorst posted a second place finish in the discus, while Skyler Widmar took third in the pole vault, Dayne Brown finished third in the javelin and the Bulldogs 4x400 meter relay team finished third.

The track season continues for Nemaha Central at the Big Seven Quad at Hiawatha on Tuesday.
