Lady Dragons Fall in Semifinal Round of Class 2A State Tournament
By Jonny Kane

The Valley Falls Lady Dragons saw their chances of a Class 2A State Title come to an end on Friday night as the Moundridge Lady Wildcats came away with a 56-48 win in the semifinal contest.

The first half of the ballgame was back-and-forth with Moundridge taking a 10-9 lead after the first quarter before Valley Falls took back the lead at halftime 20-19. Junior Jenna Kramer really got the offense going for the Lady Dragons in the second quarter as she had six points in the frame and 10 points in the half.

Coming out of the locker room the two teams continued to trade baskets in the third quarter which gave the fans inside of Bramlage Coliseum a tie game at 36 heading into the final stanza. The ballgame then turned into a free throw contest between the two sides as the two combined for 20 free throws in the fourth quarter. Lady Wildcat junior Ashley Holler really stepped up for Moundridge as she knocked down 9 of 10 from the charity stripe in the final quarter to allow Moundridge to escape with a win.

Holler led the Wildcats in scoring with 24 points on 11 of 12 shooting from the free throw line while senior Anna Stucky chipped in 13 points. Moundridge now will play in the Class 2A State Championship game Saturday afternoon at 4:00 where they will take on defending state champion Central Plains.

Valley Falls really struggled from the free throw line throughout and that ultimately cost them the contest as they finished just 9 of 20 from the charity stripe. The Lady Dragons were paced in scoring by junior Jenna Kramer as she dropped in 17 big points while fellow junior Ali Brown chipped in 8 points of her own.

The loss puts the Lady Dragons in the third place game Saturday afternoon where they will take on Meade at 12:00 which can be heard live on KAIR 93.7 FM or online at www.mscsports.net. ?
