The final week of the regular for high school football in the State of Kansas is upon us and plenty is still yet to be decided for Districts and playoffs and some area teams have already locked up playoff spots and District titles.

Throughout most of the season only two teams from the area have been ranked but headed into the final week of the regular season a third area team has broken into the Top five in one set of polls along with the other two area teams ranked.

In Class 4A it's the Holton Wildcats highlighting the Division II rankings as they remain ranked #2 in the polls across the State with a 7-1 record after beating Perry Lecompton 56-27 last week and wrapping up their seventh straight Big Seven League title in the process. The Wildcats also secured the District 1 title in 4A-DII also with the win and will wrap up the regular season with a at Royal Valley on Friday. In Class 4A-Division I the Atchison Redmen continue to get some attention in polls with their 6-2 record, but the Redmen have lost their last two games and have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

Class 3A continues to house multiple area teams getting in attention in the polls across the State but are right now still on the outside looking in. The Centralia Panthers, Nemaha Central Thunder and Horton Chargers all continue to get attention in the pools. Centralia sits at 7-1 on the season after a 35-0 win over St. Mary's last week and can win the District 2 3A title with a win over Rock Creek on Thursday. For the Nemaha Central Thunder they kept their playoff hopes alive last week with a 28-9 win over Rock Creek to improve to 6-2 and play St. Mary's on the road to wrap up the regular season on Thursday. The Horton Chargers can earn a playoff spot with a win on Thursday as they host Riverside in a win and you’re in game in District 1. The Chargers are 6-1 on the season coming off a loss to Sabetha last week.

The Troy Trojans have been on the cusp of breaking into the Class 2-1A rankings all season and were ranked in some of the rankings earlier this year and are back in the rankings this week at #5 in the Topeka Capital Journal. The Trojans area 7-1 on the season after a 63-0 win over Inman last week and wrap up the regular season with a matchup at Immaculata, but have already locked up the District title. The Onaga Buffaloes who are 5-3 and District 2 champs have jumped up into the others consider category of some polls this week. The Buffaloes will wrap up the regular season at Maranatha on Friday.

Hanover Wildcats have set atop the perch in 8-Man Division I all season and remain at #1 across the State with an 8-0 record after a 58-6 win over Clifton-Clyde last week. The Wildcats are already assured a playoff spot but have to duke it out with the #2 team in the State, Osborne for the District title on Thursday. At the 8-Man Division II level the Axtell Eagles are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2008 with a 46-0 win over Blue Valley-Randolph last week to make them 6-2 and give them the District title, too. Axtell is getting looks in a few polls headed into the final regular season game; a game in which Axtell travels to Linn to wrap up the season.

The regular season will come to a close on Thursday and Friday for Kansas high school football and for some that means the end of football season, but for others attention will turn to the playoffs and the quest for a State title.
