Holton Wildcats played host to the Sabetha Bluejays on Tuesday night and topped the Bluejays for a pair of Big Seven League wins, earning the sweep on the night behind a pair of straight set wins.

In match number one Holton worked to the 25-15, 25-22 victory, while in the second match of the night the Wildcats picked up the 30-28, 25-15 win over Sabetha.

The night started off with Holton opening the first set of match one with five-straight points, but Sabetha rallied quickly after that with five of their own to tie the set up at 5-5, early. Bluejays pushed out to their first lead in the set at 8-7 but Holton regained the lead shortly after that and lead 15-11 when they went on a 5-1 stretch to push their lead to 20-12 and have control of set one. Hayley Thompson finished off the set for the Wildcats with the kill for set point, giving the Wildcats the 25-15 set win.

In the second set the two teams traded blows back and forth with neither team establishing control until Holton pushed out to a 15-11 lead and went on to stretch out the lead to 21-12 the largest margin of the set. But Sabetha would not go away quietly as the Bluejays flew back into the set with a 6-1 run to make it 20-18 and force a Holton timeout. The Wildcats held on to their lead and grabbed the set win 25-22 and won the match, as Thompson again finished the set off with a kill for set and match point. Junior, Megan Rhule played a solid game for Holton with plenty of set attacks up front and making plays all over, while sophomore, Lauren Leavendusky added a great performance.

Sabetha had sophomore, Emily Meyer packing the punch up front for multiple kills on the night, while senior, Rhianna Becker showed plenty of leadership and made plays for the Bluejays.

In match number two of the night, set one started off with a back and forth pace until a point that appeared to be in favor of Holton was replayed due to a ball inference from the other court and that lead to Sabetha taking advantage for three straight points to lead 11-9 at that point. The Bluejays pushed their way all the way to set point, but Holton staved off three straight set points to force the set to go extra points. Both teams had traded opportunities but Holton ultimately grabbed the set 30-28 after not leading in the set since early on. The junior, Thompson for the third straight set had the set point for the Wildcats.

Set two saw the Wildcats work to an 11-7 lead and Sabetha called a timeout and out of the timeout the Bluejays notched a few points, but Holton found their groove and senior, Taryn Weilert finished the set off with the final seven points coming off her serves. Senior, Ashley Cook smashed home the set and match point for Holton, as they won 25-15 and took the match. In the loss the setting of senior, Tristen Koch highlighted things for Sabetha and junior, Alexis McAfee made plays.

With the wins Holton improved to 7-1 on the season and 5-1 in League play, while Sabetha fell to 5-5 on the year and 2-2 in League action. The Wildcats hit the court again on Saturday in the Rossville Invitational, while Sabetha will wait until next Tuesday to again grace the courts as they will host Hiawatha in League action.
