MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Even though Daniel Sams remains No. 2 on the depth chart at quarterback for Kansas State, the question is quickly becoming just how long Jake Waters will be able to hold him off.

The sophomore has been a dynamic playmaker as a change-of-pace option for the Wildcats, who are off to a 1-1 start heading into Saturday night's game against Massachusetts. Sams has been so dynamic that many fans are calling for him to take the opening snaps.

Coach Bill Snyder for now is content with a two quarterback system that swaps out Waters, a pure passer, for Sams, a more running-oriented option. The competition remains heated heading into their non-conference finale.
