Running the ball has been the name of the game for the Holton Wildcats for some time now and this year Brenden Hampton has been leading the charge of a potent rushing attack that averages nearly 400 yards on the ground per game.
Wildcats started their journey to defend their 4A State title with an opening round playoff win at home against Hesston, 45-0. Hampton lead the scoring notching 20 carries for 167 yards and a pair of TDs, while adding a 23-yard field goal in the game, his third field goal of the season.
Next up Hampton and the Wildcats traveled to Mulvane and won the battle of the Wildcats 35-14 thanks in part to 464 yards rushing as a team and Hampton again paced the way amassing nearly half of the rushing yards. Brenden had just 15 carries but went off for 218 yards and a TD in the win.
This season Hampton has been the go to workhorse guy on offense and made plays in all three phases of the game this season. In the backfield of the Wildcat wishbone attack Hampton has totaled 158 carries for 1,374 yards (8.7 ypc) and 17 TD's all numbers that lead the team. While on defense as a defensive back he's totaled 28 tackles, a sack, forced fumble and four interceptions, two of which have lead to TDs.
Hampton's impact on the 11-0 Holton Wildcats doesn't stop at the his rushing capabilities and defensive play as he's a key cog on the special teams unit. Brenden has split the uprights 53-57 times for extra points and tallied three field goals.
The Wildcats have started another postseason journey towards a potential State title and a key cog in their success has been senior, Brenden Hampton behind his jack-of-trades style of play contributing in all phases of the game and will be needed with his teammates to continue their success on their quest for another State championship.
