The B&B Falcons volleyball program has grown accustom to winning and it’s no different to start this year as the Falcons look to get back to state to attempt to three-peat as Class 1A-Division II state champions.
B&B this year is led by a senior class that has seen all those girls have great success in multiple sports over the years and the start to this year is no different.
One of those seniors leading the way on the volleyball court is Laura Sudbeck, last year’s Class 1A-Division II Player of the Year is at it again this season as the Falcons are off to a 16-2 start this year and area currently ranked number two in the latest KVA; having been ranked number one until the latest set of rankings.
Sudbeck helped lead the charge this past Saturday as the Falcons soared over the competition to win the Hiawatha Invitational taking down Centralia in a tough battle in the championship game to win the tournament going 6-0 on the day.
Laura led the team in kills in the six matches registering 60 in the tournament, while touting a 39.1% attack percentage. She added five aces to her offensive performance in the tournament, but her presence was felt on the defensive side, too as she had 11 block assists and was second on the team in digs in the tournament with 52.
On the season, Sudbeck has been at all year putting up staggering numbers as she leads the team in kills with 164, posting a 4.1 kills per set average with a 32.8% attack percentage and 22 aces. Defensively, she ranks second on the team in digs with 143, good for a 3.6 digs per set average, while also having seven solo blocks and 11 block assists.
While, Sudbeck has helped the Falcons to another great start this year on the volleyball court, she’s been aided by the tremendous play of her teammates in winning the Hiawatha Invite recently and the success on the court this season. The Falcons continue to be focused on the drive for a three-peat in Class 1A-Division II.
