Peyton Newell Highlights on the football field for Hiawatha
Peyton Newell

He's one of the top football prospect in the state of Kansas for the class of 2014 as a 6'3, 270lb tight end/defensive end and he showcased why this past week. Hiawatha Redhawk junior tight end/defensive end, Peyton Newell stood out last season as a sophomore on the football field and his junior year with the Redhawks has started with a bang, as well.

Peyton and the Hiawatha Redhawks have surprised many with their 3-0 start to the season and he has been a key part to the teams success, especially on the defensive side of the ball in the 44-6 win over the Royal Valley Panthers this past Friday. Newell from his defensive end position wreaked havoc upon the Panthers tallying four and a half sacks, six forced fumbles and more tackles, all while Fox Sports was looking on getting film for Division I football programs. Peyton finished the game also with two catches for 26 yards and a touchdown (his third touchdown of the season), on top of his mind blowing defensive performance.

Newell as a junior has received at least 16 Division football scholarship offers thus far from the likes of Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, South Carolina, Iowa, Missouri and others.

As a sophomore, he earned Class 4A All-State defensive line honorable mention honors and All Big Seven league defensive line first team. Newell looks to continue his success on the football field and with the help of his teammates the Redhawks have started the 2012 season off 3-0; first time Hiawatha has started a season 3-0 since 2005.
