Soto Breaks Horton School Record in 100-meter Dash
Maliyah Soto

It has been a year of breaking record for Horton junior Maliyah Soto who has put her name in the record books breaking a cross country record in the fall and now a track record in the spring after she set the school record in the 100-meter dash Friday at the JCN Invitational with a time of 12.84.

That time was good enough to win the meet and according to athletic.net would put her in the top five in the state.

It marked her second victory in the 100-meter dash this season after she won the ACCHS Invitational back on April 13. That day she also claimed the 200 and 400-meter dashes, along with the long jump.

She also won the 200-meter dash at the Falls City Invitational on April 27, a day where she also won the 400-meter dash and the long jump.

Along with her 100-meter dash time being one of the best as is her long jump as she holds a personal record of 16’11.

Soto is a 3-sport athlete who also excelled in cross country and on the girls’ basketball team where she was named a first-team all-Northeast Kansas League selection.

She will look to continue her strong junior campaign with the Northeast Kansas League meet coming up on Thursday and then turn her attention to the state meet with regionals set for next week.
