History has been made throughout the past two seasons at the girls wrestling ranks as since KSHSAA has officially sponsored state tournaments, girls across the area have racked up several firsts in their respective school’s history.
That is the story for Oskaloosa’s Allison King who last Friday at the state meet in Salina claimed a second-place finish in the 155-pound weight class giving the Bears their first ever girl’s state medalist.
King went 2-1 on the day as she opened the tournament with a pair of convincing wins via decision winning her opening round match 11-4 and her semifinal match 9-3.
In the championship match King knew she had a tough task in front of her facing a wrestler from Ottawa who was 23-2 coming into the tournament and King ultimately fell by a 13-5 decision.
She wrapped up her sophomore season with a record of 20-2 which included three tournament championships on the season as she claimed a regional and district title along with a championship at the ACCHS girl’s invitational on Jan. 23.
King still has a long career ahead of her and still two years to look to get revenge and claim a state championship in her career.
