Holton Wildcat Cassidy Merriman Knocking the Leather off Softball this Year
Cassidy Merriman

The Wildcats softball squad is off to a 10-2 start this year and 8-0 in the Big Seven a big reason for that success has been the great team play but one Wildcats offense has stood out.

Junior, Cassidy Merriman has been blistering hot from the plate on the season and leads the team in every offensive category thus far this season.

Merriman continued to break loose on the field with great performances last week against Perry Lecompton and Nemaha Central, as the Wildcats went 4-0 on the week with a pair of sweeps.

Against, Perry Cassidy had perhaps her best single game of the year and double header of the year, as the Wildcats earned wins of 19-4 and 17-6 against the Kaws. She got her bat going in the 19-4 win going 4-5 with four runs scored, nine RBI’s, a double and two home-runs in the game. Her offense continued in the 17-6 win with a 2-4 game with three runs scored, a walk and four stolen bases.

Cassidy continued her success at the plate in a lesser amount against Nemaha Central, compared to the Perry series but still came up big for the Wildcats in 10-0 and 15-0 wins. In the 10-0 win she registered a 2-4 performance with a run scored and three RBI, while going 1-3 with four runs scored, a double, RBI, three stolen bases and reached the bases twice by errors in the 15-0 win.

This season, Merriman has been raking in the offense for the Wildcats who have scored 126 total runs this year with Merriman batting in 27 (RBI) and scoring 23, so far. Cassidy leads the team in both RBI and runs scored categories while leading the team in batting avg. (.537), home-runs (5), triples (3) and stolen bases (11), while being tied for the team lead in doubles (4).

Wildcats look to continue a successful season thus far with Merriman helping lead the way with her offensive fire power.
