Emily Gartner
|
It’s young into the track and field season but Hiawatha Redhawk freshman, Emily Gartner as already burst onto the scene with some dominating performances in the throwing competitions thus far this season.
Hiawatha recently competed at the Atchison Invitational and Gartner made sure her presence was felt as she took home three gold medals to help cap a great day for the Redhawk track and field team. Emily dominated the javelin and discus throw, while beating out a top Big Seven League thrower in the shot put.
Nearly 11 feet and 20 feet those were the margins between Gartner’s tosses in the discus and javelin throws at the Atchison Invite and the second place finishers in those competitions this past Friday (April 12th). In the Discus she finished with a best throw of 122-01, not only nearly 11 feet better an second place, but nearly four feet better than her first place toss in the Hiawatha Quad earlier this year.
In the javelin throw, Emily smoked the competition with an impressive throw of 109-10, 20 feet better than second and over 21 feet better than her toss that took fifth at the Hiawatha Quad (88-03) earlier this year.
Her great performances didn’t stop there with a win in the shot put to sweeping the girls throwing competitions, as she won the shot by eight inches with a toss of 36-08.25. That toss was less than her toss at the Hiawatha Quad which was 38-00.75, a Hiawatha school record, but still great enough to top the competition.
The season has only begun but one thing is for sure Hiawatha freshman, Emily Gartner is already making a name for herself on the track and field circuit this spring.
