ball there are good weeks for players offensively and then there are great weeks.
For Valley Falls’ Lucas Welborn last week was a great one as he led the Dragons to four victories including one at Kauffman Stadium with what will be one of the greatest memories of his sporting career.
He opened the week with a huge night in a sweep of Troy as he went 5-for-9 in the doubleheader with two home runs, seven RBI’s and six runs scored.
Welborn followed that up with two more solid games in wins over McLouth, as in game one on Thursday he went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
He capped off the week with a huge day on the biggest stage, as he went 2-for-4 against McLouth Friday at Kauffman Stadium with four RBI’s including a three-run inside the park home run.
Welborn finished the week 8-for-15 with 11 RBI’s, 10 runs scored and three home runs, while he also tossed five innings on the mound on Thursday allowing just three hits and two earned runs.
His average on year is now just shy of .500 after the big week, while he is also up to 22 RBI’s on the season with 20 runs scored.
Welborn has helped the Dragons off to a 10-2 start to the season with just four doubleheaders remaining on the season and high hopes of reaching the Class 2-1A State Tournament in Great Bend.
